I just wish there were more animations for melee attacks. Swing that shotgun like a club! It's like golf but with husks!

This and no Hanar to talk to in ME2.

Strange how BioWare missed that, they could have prevented a lot of rage in this forum here :(

I was sad about that too.

That was subtle.

Just gonna rebut that with "No".

Dude there is like so much badass you can stack on a Vanguard, I mean hell smacking them with a shotgun then blowing them away with a shotgun?  That would make ME 3 the greatest game ever made.

Indeed in ME3 the Vanguard class has the potential to be so badass that just playing it melts your eyes!

Every time I hear "Can't reach the Target" (which is standing in front of me) and I die, God kills a kitten.

I have lost ages from my life during NG+ Insanity Horizon :(

Here's why.

The entire experience of Mass Effect, the first game, is summed up by its credits song, M4 Part II.  It just fits the whole spirit and story of the game so well.  Right down to the shades of blue.

Mass Effect 2, on the other hand, cannot be summed up by M4 Part II.  The story is darker.  The spirit is grimmer.  The music is more brazen.  The essence of the game is different than the first, blatantly in some regards, subtly in others.  It is this shift that makes Mass Effect 2 incompatible with M4 Pt II.

Hatred or disappointment for Mass Effect 2 from Mass Effect 1 fans has nothing to do with quality, at least on the narrative side.  It's undeniable that the writing and characterization in ME2 is just as good as it was in ME1, if not better.  This intangible shift in spirit "turned off" some ME1 fans.  Others took in in stride, seeing Mass Effect as none the worse for it, many seeing it as an improvement.  This is also why people on both sides of the argument can't quite understand why the other hates/likes ME2 so much.

So, yeah.  This randomly came to me while listening to M4 Part II.  Aweome song.

... No.

I like Mass Effect more because of better, more coherent narrative, better atmosphere, better soundtrack and it feels more like an RPG to me.

And I like the credits song of ME2 far better, but to take that into account while discussing the quality of a game is stupid to me.

I prefer ME2 because I spend less time figuring out where I'm going to put my next stat points and more time playing the role of the Shepard I want.

I can't believe some of these responses. The OP is not saying people don't like ME1 because of the song in the credits, he is using that to represent the atmosphere of the first game which changed in the second.

I liked the story of both games equally. The soundtracks as well. What I didn't like about ME2 was the dumb cover based healing system, the minimalist inventory system, and the inability to customize my squadmates' equipment.

What do you mean by this?

btw this thread will soon get locked as there is already a disappointment with ME2 thread.

I mean that instead of just stocking up on medigel and tapping 'Y' when my health got low like I did in ME1, I have to disengage from battle and find some place to hide as soon as my shields go down in ME2.

Actually you can still use med gel to heal you in ME2. Its not just for reviving squadmates. And in ME1 you healed over time as well depending on your armour mods.

Gears / Uncharted / COD / One of the other many games that now have this feature anyone? I for one didnt want ME2 to be more like these games. I wanted it to be more of the same stuff we got in ME1.

Theres a reason games have this heal over time when not in combat feature. It works. And its been around for ages and ME1 had it to.

LOL - yes, finally it all makes sense to me - it wasn't those stupid, jarring "mission complete" screens that bugged me, it was that I was lacking an epic song to tie it all together!!

*bows humbly* You have changed my world outlook ;)

These "mission complete" screens are what is bugging me about ME2, apart from a few other things others here have pointed out already (like the heavily restricted environment... Citadel anyone ?).
It makes me feel like i'm playing a platformer like Super Mario or a Strategy Game rather than a continous RPG.
I really hope they ditch them in the last Game.

Though you have to understand one thing people: BioWare HAD to be more restrictive with ME2 to still be able to direct the main story in a general direction so that it makes sense when ME3 arrives on the screen.
Also, in Trilogies the middle Chapter is almost always the weakest.

Oh no you DIDN'T

Link the awesome element of recharging health to these games again and I am going to eat you.
Most games have this system nowadays, because frankly it works better than medpacks. Don't try to make a connection to COD and Gears.

While I agree that ME1's leveling system was cumbersome, I think ME2 took it too far in the other direction. At the very least, given the drop in the number of available abilities they should've at least let you max out all the ones you had. The low level cap really irritated me. I'm in favor of separating leveling your weapons and armor from leveling your character though.

I always preferred a combination of the two systems, like in Halo or Resistance. Have some shield or health that recharges/regenerates, but still allow the player to be worn down.

I loved ME2 but ME1 had some elements to it that just made the galaxy feel more alive, like planet exploration and that first time you went to the galaxy map gave you a sense of wonder and amazement that i never got in ME2

Well, Mass Effect one had a great ending song. And Hanar. That's about all there is to say.

Mass Effect 2 is better than the first game in every single other aspect.
