why waste the bandwidth and everyones time. frankly no one is trolling and people have legitimate reasons. i never got the logic of sucking up to a developer. you get nothing by blindly following them criticizing others who disagree with "the company."

whereas bioware on viewing this and similar threads know gamers want inventory but not cluttered like me1 but not totally removed. examples like that.

if it helps make me3 better why not

I used to come here alot when there was GOOD discussions but I stopped coming here as much because its the same broken record over and over again.  You guys are just insatitable just enjoy the damn game for what it is.

Honestly, I'm just waiting for Mass Effect 3 to come out and witness people complaining about how it is the worst game in the series and how Mass Effect 2 was the most superior game in the series.

This happens every time.

Considering that Bioware is planning to add some RPG elements back into Mass Effect 3, it might be YOU guys who are crying "RUINED FOREVER!!!"  this time B)...

I don't really care if they add more RPG elements or not. I just want a fun game to play.

my biggest fear is that ME1 is going to be the best of the 3.

i loved ME before ME2 came out. ME1 was the single reason i owned an xbox. now i think mass effect is just another game. just another franchise. i preordered ME2 because ME1 was awesome. i wont be preordering ME3 because of what ME2 gave me. ME3 will simply be just a rental when i have the time.

which breaks my frickin heart.

honestly, i think a ME1 remake with the majority of ME2s combat and graphic upgrade
would be a much better idea then continueing on with ME2: part 2.

This is my exact feeling!!!
I have started long ago to think that ME1 is a lone masterpiece.

I have no trust in the new Bioware...
After decade of wonderful games we have now entered in the EA decade...

And you know...
-) We have lost all the originally planned DLC x ME;
-) We have lost Jade Empire 2;
-) Dragon Age x consolles (oh my god..) (and the 6 month delay of DA1 for PC in order to have simultaneous release);
-) ME2 (how... just tell me how you have done this to one of the best franchise ever!!!!!)
-) FREE DLC x PS3 version of ME2 (while all the other have paid for them!!!)
-) Dragon Age 2 (just one year later and with the same treatment of ME2...);
-) Bonus contents for all the ones that will preorder DA2 by the end of DECEMBER (Whaaat??!!!!!?!?!?!!?!?)
-) A new multiplayer FPS (?!?!?!)

Could Bioware survive the EA decade ?

I have full confidence in Bioware's ability to continue making great games. I have very fond memories of many of the the original titles that made the company what it is today. Like any medium, video games are going to develop in the spirit of the times, but that doesn't mean there isn't any innovation left. One thing that Bioware's always done better than most every other development group out there (with a few notable exceptions) is build titles up around stories rather than tacking stories onto gameplay. I can't blame those who feel burned by some of the choices made in both Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2, but I believe many will be cutting off their noses just to spite their faces.

Mass Effect had a feeling of mystery and conspiracy.  Each world had it's own music and felt very unique.  MAss effect didn't really have that feeling.

well im sorry i dont stalk the forums like you and didnt venture into an 800 page thread. but to me these arguments are fresh, i enjoy hearing how other people reacted to the game as most of my friends have never played me1 or 2 so i haven no one to discuss with. no one here is trolling.

i dont get your argument either, no one has said they dont enjoy the game. im sorry some people dont think its perfect, last i checked most major gaming sites gave it 9 or 9.5 but not 10. that means there is problems but were just not supposed to discuss?

you think its broken record i think its an interesting conversation. there are plenty of other games and forums you can goto if you hate discussion so much

The only thing I can add is that M4 part II is such an amazing song. It made me want to rise slowly off of my chair after I beat Mass Effect. The only thing that would have made it better was if there was someone to start a slow clap, and then cue a montage of the game's cutscenes. One of the best credit songs I've heard.

Just pray that Kotor tanks and Bioware gets sold to a more RPG friendly publisher...While they'll loose their IPs most likely, and have them butchered by whatever studio the rEApers decide to give them to, it's a fresh start.

1: Plans change. DLC for Mass Effect 2 is still on the Horizon however.
2: Jade Empire 2 has more difficulties arriving than EA.
3. The six month delay got you Shale.
4. It isn't free. You can get the game and DLC much cheaper on the 360 and PC at this point. PS3 users have to pay more.
5. Wait for the game to come out before you judge it. It has probably been in development longer than you think.
6. What?
7. A spin-off. Or would you rather they shoehorn in ****ty multiplayer for Mass Effect 3? Wait for the game to actually be confirmed anyway, and then wait for actual gameplay footage of the thing.

I suspect the reason why some ME fans dislike ME2 is just plain old resistance to change.

That is one part of it, but not nearly the end of it. A lot of the resistance is simply because ME2 lost features and values the first game had. That's plain old objective criticism. The combat is better, other things are not. A good sequel should improve only. And not cut back on so many other things.

True... but Bioware has done well considering the fact that it's pretty hard to know what fans exactly. I guess we can't have everything. ;)

Here's why.

The entire experience of Mass Effect, the first game, is summed up by its credits song, M4 Part II.  It just fits the whole spirit and story of the game so well.  Right down to the shades of blue.

Mass Effect 2, on the other hand, cannot be summed up by M4 Part II.  The story is darker.  The spirit is grimmer.  The music is more brazen.  The essence of the game is different than the first, blatantly in some regards, subtly in others.  It is this shift that makes Mass Effect 2 incompatible with M4 Pt II.

Hatred or disappointment for Mass Effect 2 from Mass Effect 1 fans has nothing to do with quality, at least on the narrative side.  It's undeniable that the writing and characterization in ME2 is just as good as it was in ME1, if not better.  This intangible shift in spirit "turned off" some ME1 fans.  Others took in in stride, seeing Mass Effect as none the worse for it, many seeing it as an improvement.  This is also why people on both sides of the argument can't quite understand why the other hates/likes ME2 so much.

So, yeah.  This randomly came to me while listening to M4 Part II.  Aweome song.:whistle:

Excellent point.  I never considered that, and I totally agree from my experience.

My REAL complaint is the loss of RPG, and inclusion of "consoley" things like loading screens; but under the surface I might have accepted the changes had they not altered to be "cooler" and "darker".

I loved the semi-Star Trek vibe of ME1, and M4 Pt. II - excellent song that sums up ME1 perfectly.  ME2 didn't have that.

I STILL listen to the ME1 soundtrack, I only listened to ME2's once and shelved it.

Maybe ...

Or, maybe its because they changed the style of game and removed a lot of systems?

ToR will make or break Bioware. I HOPE they make it, and re-affirm that PC is their homeland; In my mind they are committing suicide appealing to the console style of gaming.

They HAD a great rep. in the PC community, and their stellar games won over the console community.  Now they are changing all of that, appealing to the console community and seemingly losing what made them special in leiu of the "CoD" level of profits.

Call it conspiracy yada yada, its happening, and is visible.  Short-term profits < long-term stability.

Story? Yes, the main plot IS better in ME1. I can't argue with that.

However, ME1's party members are the worst party members BioWare has ever made. There were all bland and boring. Garrus was the only exception (he's Batman). ME2's characters are much better.

And the dialogue writing is MUCH better in ME2. Go check out the threads with epic lines and see that most lines people post are from ME2. ME2 had far better writing in dialogue, there was more humor, more epic lines etc.

Here :

It had a better cast of characters, I agree. And certainly more humor.

But Saren and his plan. Damn that was awesome

1) It is true: plans change... Look at what they have done to ME2...
2) JE sequel was much probably the (in)famous second exclusive deal that Microsoft at the time had with the old Bioware.. Before EA...
3) DA Origin for consoles is an abomination.
4)In fact I will follow your line of thought: if I will ever play a new Bioware game I will certenly buy (an already owned?) GOTY Edition.
5) DA2 has the shortest production schedule ever. The (ex) good doctors admit it in a recent interview. It seems that EA has started to apply the Fifa model on Bioware game...
6) The pre-order affair for DA2 is an abomination. I really hate this marketing behaviour.
7) We will see what Bioware will do (then go back to point 4).

Again, I am not so sure that Bioware will survive the EA Effect.

Here's a question, how many studio's did Bioware have back in the day? I know they have grown in the last few years. To me upsizing means less hands on by the original team, and therefore the value of the company name is less.

As for #4 ea has that model for all it's sports franchise (except boxing), and I have found that some of the developers are better than others. The team that does the hockey are pretty good, although these has been there worst since the new consoles came out, I've never played fifa but I have heard a lot of good things about it. Madden seems to have the worst rep among them.

Anyways back to the topic...

To me, as others have said the biggest difference has to be setting/atomsphere (which I think the orginal poster was trying to say). That and some story settings just are, well meh....when compared to the original.

I understand why they went with the story the way they did, I seem to remember a lot of complaints that we're supposed to be racing against Saren, but still had time to visit every planet, reslove everyone's problems and still beat or finish a close enough second that he didn't get away. Well taking away the race part and focus on team building really reduced that complaint, but it left a mess in it's wake.
