Great another console port. Hopefully this one isn't a ****ty port. I don't know if Fallout 3 or New Vegas were console ports, but the PC version didn't feel like a console port and felt like a PC game considering how less buggy it is with mods.

It's not a port.

Like I said, this is an old news and was refuted long ago. Is it really necessary to have the same outcry every time someone brings up a preview from months ago?

More early info on the tactical combat camera from another site:

http://www.gamesrada...93233136058/p-3

It differs from the German preview, to say the least.

So let's say that it's old and they added the Iso camera until now? Doesn't that scream console porting, and doesn't it mean that everything said at the Joystick interview is true? That Bioware never really planned to have an Isometric camera but will have now because of the outcry of fans.

I'm pretty sure it is a port. Stuff like low draw distance screams console porting. And didn't Bioware said that the graphics will look the same all round? It will not only be a console port but a bad console port ala Mass Effect 2. No better draw distance, no better textures, no real use of PC hardware or the keyboard controls.

Posted ImagePosted ImageBioware has said again and again that this isn't a port.  They are buliding all the game on all three systems simultaneously; Mike explained that once you had the engine built it isn't that difficult to do.  The reason for the camera being lower is that they would have been issues with the graphics (specifically textures, I believe) and so they opted to go for a camera that could zoom around the field at a closer distance.  He's also said that, while the console versions' graphics won't be as far behind as Origins' were, PCs will always have better graphics if they're high end just because of the power in the system as compared to a console.  The divide, however, seems as if it will be much less pronounced this time around.Posted ImagePosted Image

Not really, no, since we were told that aspect was a work in progress some time ago, not now. And directly above your post is an article from about the same time as the one in the OP detailing the camera.

God you people are stupid. The preview clearly said that the controls are centered around a console controller. What more could you want?

Bioware wants to sell more ok? They want your money, they want the money of casual gamers, and the money of hardcore PC gamers, and they release vague information like they're going to hide the truth until release date.

Just stop being so stupid.

annnd, thank you mike_18 for that last post. made my reporting you for vulgar language so much easier to do.

EDIT:i was actually considering to not do it on account that you might have a rational argument to support your statements but it seems that's not the case.

How about multiple developer posts explaining that the controls for the PC version are exactly the same as DAO? Or people who attended conventions telling us that the controls were the same?

And there's more information about the PC version here, also from August.

As he prepares to show me an extended demo of Dragon Age II, lead designer Mike Laidlaw elaborates, "You have every ability you had in Origins in terms of being able to attack, move and position guys. But it's faster, way more fluid, way more comprehensible."

"You may have to pause a little bit more to pull off the 'grand strategy,' but you can still pause the game, move between all of your characters... All those things are still there."

In other words, all of the old tactical elements remain intact. The attacks just hit a whole lot harder this time around.

Laidlaw demonstrates how that changes the gameplay by taking me over to the PC situated in the corner, where he takes a moment to demonstrate the new tactical camera before jumping into battle. It's actually not all that different from the original camera, though it sits at more of an angle this time around.

The idea is to afford a good view of the battlefield while resolving technical problems that lowered the graphical fidelity across all three platforms, Laidlaw says. My impression is that it makes for a solid middle ground between a pure third-person view and the overhead camera
of old; at the very least, it doesn't impact the ability to issue orders and direct characters about the battlefield.

Laidlaw issues some orders using the familiar point-and-click interface from the first game, and then all hell breaks loose. Hawke rushes forward and reduces a pack of Darkspawn to tiny giblets, and his mage companion instantly lets loose with a devastating fireball. The action
isn't that different from before, but everything seems to hit much harder this time around.

In describing the updated battle system, Laidlaw says that he didn't see any problem with the point-and-click interface of old. He just wanted the characters to move more quickly in implementing their orders.

Really, if you can't be bothered to do some simple research about the game (all of which is in the 'what we know' thread), how do you expect people to react?

The preview was also c talking about the console version being designed for a console controller, wasn't it? Unless we want the console players to get a sucky port , this is not a bad thing.

Uh huh...

Well, here's a link to the same site (if not the same article), translated. From around the end of August. They talk about the tactical camera a bit, but note it wasn't installed in the Gamescom version.

Hear, hear.  It is much easier to design a control scheme for mouse-and-keyboard than for a console controller from what I've seen just because you have access to many more keys.  I don't care if the controls are optimized for a console controller even on the PC version.

However, I really wish they'd bring back a hotkey for "next target" and "previous target".  Only being able to switch targets by clicking them with the mouse was making me crazy.  It's hard to click on things that are moving around, and some of us don't like to pause every single time we want to select something.

I legitimatelly do not understand how someone plays DA:O without pausing. Then again, I can barely understand how someone plays the game with the isometric camera or tactics enabled, so maybe I just don't understand preferences.

Nefario links a later article, which clearly mentions that the version they tested in the OP's article didn't have the tactical camera installed yet.

This is a link to the original article, translated. My take on the controller issue is that they're mentioning that the game has been improved for controllers, not that the PC version has been optimized for controllers. The previewer is not mentioning the controller issue as a problem for the PC version, just the lack of tactical camera.

translate.google.com/translate

InExile, you run everybody in the party yourself and you don't use the iso camera? How do you maintain situational awareness? I stay in OTS view in combat fairly often myself, but I keep the companions running on tactics most of the time so I don't need to be completely aware of their situations.

Alright, back to the 8-ball versus Ouja board debate. I was just about to post this, but then i found the thread was already locked. So mad!

I wish someone made a character that uses an 8-ball for a prosthetic eye. All you'd have to do is ask him a question and shake his head and youll know your future. He would be such a tormented character because he could never use his gifts for himself!

I could totally see him being in the next mgs game

Did I miss something ? - Whatever you may think of the poster and his conduct, the tactical camera concern is still valid.

He created a post last night saying DA2 would sell less than 100k. It was shut down by a mod as trolling. One can draw one's own conclusions from that I'm sure.
