Must have Ammon or Zhaive?

I was wondering one thing, I never completed the OC but I hear from a friend of mine that you HAVE to use Ammon Jerro and/or Zhaive (whatever her name is) in order to complete the game?

I dont mind the occasional "must have char" episodes of the game, but what really annoys me is the "must have char" to complete the game. I heard this was in relation to some scroll that is only useable by Cleric or Warlock, can you then bypass this by doing a Cleric or Warlock as your main char?

I have been thinking of doing a Cleric.

No, you need one of them, it's part of the story. It's only for a couple short missions, so no big deal, and they don't fill a party slot IIRC.

Yes I know you need some characters for some parts of the game, but from what I understood you pretty much need Ammon and Zhaive as a basic member of your party for the whole second part of act 3. Maybe my friend confused me.

I dont mind having to use Elanee when I visit Skymirror or Khelgar for the Dwarven Scouts area, but what bugs me is this mechanic that you will have to make up a party slot for either Ammon or Zhaive. Although, if I understood you correctly, they will take a non-party party slot, just like Shandra does as your apprentice?

Note that you get to have 4 members instead of 3 in act3, maybe you're thinking of that?

It's been a long while since I played the OC, so I can't say for sure. I think there are certain parts where they are like Shandra, yes, but don't trust me fully on this. Maybe someone who had played recently can confirm or deny it.

I hate Zhjaeve, so I give her the boot as soon as I can. I only recall having her for one mission and either her or Ammon for other two (pretty short ones, I'm not even sure if in one of them they are in the party or are NPCs which you don't control).

But again, it's been a long time...

What annoys me most about Zhjaeve is that you get her at so late level and all her feats, stats and skills are completly messed up compared to what I would chose for a Cleric myself.

Never played with Ammon so cant say much about him (or warlocks in general) - maybe I should try an evil campaign and run with him then.

Yes, Zjhaeve is horribly built, she has only 10 STR, for example. But what I really hate about her is how she talks. I wish I could leave her in the cell where she's found and cast Silence on her.

Warlocks are much better in epic, but since you get Ammon at a high level, he's pretty decent. He can damage multiple enemies with his spells without damaging your party.

I love warlocks in my parties, specially in low level modules with restricted resting, for Flee the Scene mainly. It's like Persistent Haste, but you get it 11 levels earlier. That's why I prefer them as companions rather than as PCs, you can leave them in auto-pilot and in overpowered casting mode, unlike mages, and having to recast FtS each 30 seconds is a pain to do it manually. They're one of the best class for companions IMO.

Would be great if someone else who has more recent experience with this could answer, although I thank you for your input Arkalezth. I want to start playing but im considering class because of this dilemma. :)

Well, I'm 99.999% sure you can't use the scrolls, no matter your class. I don't say 100% because I didn't try it.

If you don't mind reading walkthroughs, take a look in thieves-guild or gamebanshee.

Yes, you do have to take Zhjaeve along for a considerable stretch of the late game. Ammon Jerro only has to go along for the ride on a couple small encounters. They do take up roster spots for the most part (one notable exception).

And in the very final dungeon, you must take them both. But trust me, you need them.

You will have to reconcile yourself to the fact the writers made them integral to the story.

Plot characters suck. I always dispised Imoen just cos of that fact.

Especially when they make them so boring as Zhjaeve. Know that I talk long and semi-cryptic, know that I have 10 STR and know that I have an extremly boring and predictable dialogue, know that I will sound very wise because of my 20 WIS. Know this and you will reconcile having to use me to complete the game.

But thanks for your answer.

IIRC, you can de-level and re-level her as you wish.

You would subtract XP, then add them back.

Specifically

`
debugmode 1
givexp -20000
givexp 20000
debugmode 0
`

A little warning though - in the OC the characters' XP are linked so you will de-level all of your currently active characters.  And this will only take them back to Level 1, which won't correct her STR problem.

Thanks, actually I checked the interwebs for this stuff before this answer and what you can do is this:

Target current NPC, do
Enter Console
DebugMode 1
printfeats to get targeted NPCs ID (You will see it at the top "Feats for Neeshka (51189)")
resetlevels 51189 1 (will make Neeskha level 1 with 0 XP)
givexp 51189 3000 (will give Neeshka 3000 XP)
DebugMode 0

You will have to regive XP for each level though, as even if you give 10000 on first level, it will only go up to next leve (in this case 3000).  So it is possible to do for each character seperatly.

EDIT: And your right about her strenght, but atleast you can make it 12 from leveling which gives her a 16 with the belt of priestly might.
