I ran across a guide on GameFAQs that shows how to beat Baldur's Gate 2 with a carefully planned wizard. It's called "One-Character Guide" on the BG2 Guides page. Please note that I DID NOT WRITE THIS! I only got Baldur's Gate 2 about a week ago and found this. So don't ask me for advice. Ask the author, NeoMagnusX. Check the page on GameFAQs for it, because the Legal Info won't let me post a link.
Besides this, I wanted to ask a BG2 developer to explain if adding special dialogue for when you only have one character in your party was added in the hopes that someone would find it either by accident or while doing a Solo Run. After all, ANY game where you can have a party, someone is going to make a try solo run. Pokemon and the Final Fantasy games, for example, have been beaten by people using just on character. Why wouldn't Baldur's Gate be completable under those conditions?

If you have had this game for just a week, then I cannot reccomend a solo attempt. This game is very complex and you need to understand the spell system (among other things) before trusting your life to it.
Sure it's possible. It's been done. But unless you know where each trap lies, what it does, what monsters appear where to interrupt your rest, and what is the right spell to defend yourself in each situation, you need some more time to prepare.
Also, Baldur's Gate II is much more fun with a party in my opinion.

I know, I don't have the micro ability to solo this game and never had. I posted this for all of those idiots/bad-asses who know the game and can beat an Iron Man challenge. Give em a new fun challenge.

To my knowledge there is no special dialogue or anything for soloing. I don't see why there should be, either.

The reason why there "should" (I think "might" would be much better than should here) be special dialogue is because the game reacts to various choices you make about your party (like how certain charcters don't get along, or how Minsc can help get you into Spellhold by talking to Desharik, or any of the various NPC's reactions to quests and so on), of which soloing is one of the options. I'm pretty sure you do get different dialogue if soloing in Suldanessalar, but that's the only one I remember.

I don't think the developers really anticipated that anyone would solo the game on a routine basis. The reality is, only the hardcore gamers really do these types of runs. And yes, before the final battle in SoA, the game notifies the gamer that no one else is there to make a statement. Also occurs during Spellhold during the slayer transformation.

I solo'ed the game with a couple classes. In all honesty, this is a very easy game, through BG1 to ToB (I played BGT), so you shouldn't have any problems at all.

It is easy as long as you allow yourself to reload at least...

One thing that I have noticed is that dialogue often remains the same even though it is clearly incorrect. Plurals are used even when they should be singular, for example. The game assumes that your mates are with you.
