I'm currently trapped behind cover in the Collector Base. There seems to be some sort of large floating thing moving about the room killing everything. I have no ammo whatsoever. I have not levelled any offensive powers. All teammates dead. It keeps following me around in circles. How do I defeat this creature?

Omni-gel, find ammo, or try to melee. Sounds like you're screwed though.

There's no ammo in this room, and I used all the gel stuff already, but it kept killing my teammates.

When I try to melee it, it keeps hitting me with its laser and trying to "pound" the ground and it's barrier comes back up.

Do you have any heavy weapon ammo? Otherwise, if there is no ammo to be had you probably need to die and try again.

I have no ammo of any kind. I've just been running around this pillar in the middle of the room for the last three hours trying to figure out how to defeat this thing!

Floating thing = praetorian, You bring its shield down with powers/bullets, take some of its health of before the shield goes back up again and you have to repeat the process until it finally dies, It's one of the more resilient enemies in the game, If you're out of bullets you're out of luck I'm afraid.

Yeah you're not going to kill it with melee, but since you had no other way to damage it at all, you might as well give it a shot, right?

Is this a troll? Come to think of it, there's no praetorian in the collector base...

You mean you tried melee like one guy said, which got you killed because you can't melee a Praetorian. There's a box for heavy ammo in the room, but if you managed to use all your ammo, use the heavy ammo refill, and then use up all your ammo again, then you really had no options left other than a reload. Anyway, this goes in the strategy forum.

I can't get through this level. I thought Insanity was too easy so I tried to play through without picking up any ammo or medi-gel or upgrading my offensive powers. Now my character just sucks.

It doesn't help that I'm playing this level with Jack and Jacob.

Maybe he's thinking of the Collector ship? There's a Praetorian there.

Honestly, Praetorians aren't that hard for me to kill anymore, not now that I've seen how easy it is to just run away. At a certain range, it stops being threatening. Death Choir is the only real danger.

On the Collector ship, send your companions down into the floor area, if they die, wait to revive them until after it has passed and is closing on you. Your job is to go around in circles as your companions shoot at the big ugly, the circle is down the stairs around the bottom and then back up the other side, maybe even fast enough to keep it up high so it doesn't get near your companions. If you need ammo, the heavy weapons crate at the bottom gives ammo refill. With few upgrades good luck, you will find this a long and tedious fight.

Clips keep spawning on that map so you cant run out of ammo there. There is one clip that spawns every few seconds on the way up that high ground.

Praetorian fight in Collector Ship -

Focus on Husks and Collectors first, once they are dead they will not respawn.

Now, focus on the Praetorian. You will need to move in a circle around the room, running from the Praetorian and hiding behind cover. There is LOTS of ammo in this room. Keep running, the most important aspect of this fight is distance. Always keep distance between Shep and the Praetorian and shoot it as much as you can!

??? How you get to this point of the game playing on insanity without upgrades? 'cause the opening of that mission is the hardest part of the game. Just drop the level down to casual and follow the suggestions given above - let your teammates shoot the thing.

Mattock Soldier? :P

Still sort of doesnt make sense, someone who find insanity easy would be able to tear the preatorian to pieces like toilet paper.

I remember another thread that mentioned trying to beat the game without upgrading anything, so if the OP is legit then this goes to show how important upgrades really are.
