Most of mine do it but view it as a temporary assignment at best.

Though my HNM married to Anora goes to get things in order due to Amaranthine being a major trade port, he could care less about the Wardens at this point after stopping a Blight. The fact he gets an awesome suit of armor, shield, and sword are just a bonus.

I think that most of my Wardens that actually go through and save Ferelden are dedicated enough to take command at least until the remaining darkspawn are dealt with and the countryside is quiet. Only my dwarves might I sometimes consider would prefer to return to Orzammar and deal with issues back home, leaving the surface problems to the humans.

Besides, those of mine who are still alive at that point are likely to be the type that would appreciate the power that comes from being Warden Commander of Ferelden and Arl of Amaranthine. My City Elf in particular loves the idea not so much because of the Warden Commander part, but because she gets to be Arl of Amaranthine and would want to lord over the fact that an elf is one of the third-highest nobles in Ferelden, basically (not quite noble, but still, holding the position, which is still good enough to rub people's noses in it).

Let's see off the top of my head the reasons my individual Wardens did it are as follows excluding my HNM since I already listed that.

DN: He was visiting Leliana in Denerim after getting his house in order back in Orzammar, and Alistair begged him. He'd left Gorim in charge, and named him his heir as his son was still a toddler.

DC: Was bored, and thought it would be something to do.

CE: Alistair begged him. Oh, and this was before the whole LI letters(Which sucked) so I figured Leliana stayed in Denerim because she was pregnant at the time.

DE: Had nothing better to do, and thought it would be amusing to rule over the Shems as an Arl.

So... I'm getting the impression that regardless of your choices at the end of Origins, if you import to Awakening, you HAVE to be ether Commander in Ferelden or Orlais? I've not played Awakening yet.... saving it for when I start to get bored with Origins, and find it at a nice low price. If this is true, then I'd like to know... as I really DON'T want my endings in Origins F'd up by an over priced expansion that doesn't even include companions like Zevran.

*edit*  To clarify, I know you have to act as comander in Awakenings... but do you have to stay-on as comander at the end, or can you go back to what you were doing pre-awakening or go chase down Zevran?  Dude, that Zevran ending slide so screws up things for those who have a political responsability in Ferelden, AND were in love with Zevran.  So now you're being pulled in three different directions?!  Oh, that sucks a LOT.

I think your 'long-term' slide on the end of Awakening is dependent on your answers in the post-coronation scene to the king/queen and Love Interest while Orlesian wardens are assumed to wish to leave the barbaric Fereldans when they have the chance.

Marriage takes precedence over LI slide so Zev wouldn't even be mentioned

Marriage?  Ah, no, sorry... XD  I meant... What if my character chose to be Tyrne/Tyrna, or ... um... what was it?  Arl of the City Elves or something like that?  I think First Enchanter is another possible position for a warden to get... But not sure...  THOSE are the political positions I meant.  But thanks for that tidbit.

I had no problem in that regard with Awakening, except for one character who didn't stay in Ferelden. Whatever reason they had to fight against the Blight basically extends to finishing the job in Amaranthine. The rigamarole of being commander, that was just part of what they had to do to see the job done.

I had a harder time imagining why they would be running off to rescue a dwarf from the Deep Roads, in the golem DLC.

This^.  Especially when he tells me that I can't bring anyone along who knows what they are doing, so that he can protect his family secrets.  My warden would have been like ,"screw you".

There's trouble brewing in the Deep Roads, could be darkspawn, kind of your responsibility (possible reason for going).

For my main HN Awakening isn't really out of character cause while he does want to find Morrigan (he wuvs her), he understands that Loghain was right and as the Hero of Fereldan he has responsibilities that take higher priority.

All other characters though it's kind of ooc so I probably won't count an Awakening run as canon (still do it to see how different classes/origins pan out in the DLC but won't count it in my mental canon)

Oh, I must agree there. My Tabris found twisted joy in having all the nobles swear fealty to her. She was very smug in the ceremony and had to quell the urge to spout "Suck it, shemlen."

Hm...not really many of my Wardens remained Wardens and the few that didn't wanted to keep the world safe from the remaining Darkspawn.

One good thing about playing good guys I guess.

I couldn't, especially given the way my Wardens' stories ended in Origins!

My HNF (my portrait!) is Queen alongside her love, Alistair, and my female elf is happily adventuring with Zevran. And my male elf mage did the US. I felt like I did my duty and gave them happy endings, except for my mage, even if Morrigan is running around with her old god baby somewhere. So I'd like to think they're happy with where they are.

So I plan on playing an Orlesian Warden in Awakenings and starting over :D

Yeah I agree my warden wouldn've just wanted to stay with Leliana. She/he would've left the wardens in order to lead a life of their own.

It was appropriate for my main CE rogue, as he's kind of the heroic sort and particularly hates the darkspawn.
