Kind of a big leap here, but i believe they said they have something to announce that is a stretch for mass effect. If thats the case then i think there could be a small chance of kinect compatibility in ME3. I know most people probably hate the sound of that but i believe if anyone could incorporate kinect into a real game bioware would be the ones who could do it well.

Just a bit of a thought

I for one would love to play a dark, gritty episode based on the reaper invasion of earth. Because that's what that teaser was. Absolutely, 100% definitely, without a shadow of a doubt.

*I wish.

First time for everything and it would set up one heck of a climatic finale. :-)

Personally, I think that this isn't a defense of Earth.  Rather, its one of Earth's colonies and Sheppard has the opportunity to somehow stop the Reapers from reaching Earth, (total) IMO.

All of this speculation about FPS games and prequels is nonsense. It's obvious to me. They are going to announce ME3, or I will eat my hat.

How is it obvious? It's not like it's impossible Mass Effect will get a spin-off.

Ha... you guys are funny.  I'll spell it out...

Mass Effect has always been intended to be a trilogy.

Mass Effect 2 essentially ends on a cliffhanger (fleet of approaching Reapers).

Technically Bioware could decide to sqeeze a spin-off game or prequel into the middle of the trilogy if they wanted to, but it really only makes sense to do that if you live in Stupid Crazy Land.  That would be a little bit like George Lucas making "A New Hope" and "The Empire Strikes Back" and then making "Phantom Menace" before "Return of the Jedi."  Fans would be like... "WTF?"

Now it's possible that they could do a totally side-project that is not a PC or console game.  Something like a handheld game, or a Facebook game, or some such.  But I don't think any such project would get this kind of hype or a cinematic trailer.

There is absolutely nothing about that snippet of a trailer that suggests it is a prequel or spin-off or that it can't be ME3.

So, I say again, they will announce ME3 or I will eat my hat.  AND my socks.

Bioware has said in the past that they aim to continue the Mass Effect franchise in some way shape or form away from Commander Shepards story. In fact the trilogy only deals with Commander Shepards story, and not the franchise on the whole.

Of course they will... AFTER the trilogy is complete.  Again, to use a Star Wars analogy (cause who doesn't love Star Wars analogies?) continuing the Mass Effect franchise away from Shepard now would be like George Lucas starting on the Clone Wars animated series after finishing The Empire Strikes Back.  You've gotta finish what you start before you start expanding on what you've done.  Man, that's deep.

A spin-off makes no sense. DLC makes no sense. ME3 is the only conclusion I can draw.

Unless Bioware considers this title an integral part of the story for ME3 that they want to tell first. Besides they have already done one minor spinoff, and it'd hardly be revolutionary for them to suddenly change their mind. Baring in mind the books barely even mention Shepard yet still tie in to the main plot point (the Reapers, not Shepard), they could decide to make an expansion of some form to ME2 that does not have Shepard in the main role, yet still ties in to ME3. Besides, Lucas decided to start on number 4, even when he knew he wanted 6 episodes of Star Wars, so he was hardly the master of conventional storytelling.

ME1..... ME2..... Prequel????.....ME3

It's either an expansion or you're looking at a new character for ME3.

.... or a stupid spin off

I'm afraid that Bioware might pull a Metroid/Halo on us, and give us an endless stream of spinoffs and prequels without advancing the plot...At all...past Metroid Fusion/Halo 3/Mass Effect 2

I don't think it's really "too early" for an ME3 reveal. Here's why:

1. The first Mass Effect teasers (RPG of the Future) came out fairly early 2006. (I scoured the internet looking for old announcement trailers. No easy task.)

2. Mass Effect was released on November 20, 2007, a year and a half after the first teasers. (Source: Mass Effect Wiki)

3. The first Mass Effect 2 teasers (Geth? In MY armor?!) came out early 2009, a little over a year after ME1's release (again, scoured the internet).

4. Mass Effect 2 was released on January 26, 2010 (I was there), a little UNDER a year from the first teasers.

5. Both teasers looked very different from the finished games.

6. It has been said (and here I fail at finding a source, check Kotaku) that Bioware plans on coming out with ME3 faster than the other two.

7. That is totally an M-29 Incisor that Typical Gritty White Space Marine Guy is wielding.

So, assuming that ME3 WILL be announced in December, that pegs ME3's release either late 2011 or early 2012.

I CAN DREAM CAN'T I?

That doesn't say there are two BioWare announcements. And also the second one is the world premiere of Batman: Arkham City at the VGAs.

On the other hand, see the similarities between the rifles:

First time seeing this... so sorry if this has been brought up ad nauseum... but good catch.  As soon as I saw that rifle I thought of the Incisor.  Has this been refuted officially at all yet?

Um, Archangel in Mass Effect 2. And Bioware has already confirmed that ME3 will try to be darker, while bringing back some of the lightness and humour from the first game, which they obviously did by not making everything orange.

Also, the Incisor is a new weapon, so it couldn't be set in anything before the events of Mass Effect 2. Unless they did some serious retconning.

I was hoping for something unique, but it appears to be either Mass Effect 3 or another generic sci-fi shooter.

The pictures are bar codes.

The first picture (when scanned) shows the atomic mass (58.45) for Iron.

The second picture (when scanned) shows -128.5 degrees F. The lowest temperature ever recorded on earth.

The first two clues (plus a Mass Effect rifle) point to Aequitas, a planet in Mass Effect 2 known for its "Iron Canyons" and a surface temperature of -128.5F (-89C).

It was also the site of a sidemission, N7: Abandoned Mine in which a Reaper indoctrination device turned a research team into husks & abominations.

Wait, Wait. The tempature was recorded in Vostok, Antarctica. There’s a system in Mass Effect 1 called Vostok.  DAMN YOU BIOWARE AND YOUR CONFLICTING INTEL!

This is probably ME3, which would still be great, but I am still holding on to the tiniest sliver of hope that this may be a new IP and blur is just reusing models from ME2. The more the merrier IMO even if it is another modern style shooter if anybody can make the genre interesting again its BW. That is as long as they kept story, companion characters, and tough moral choices at the heart of the game like all of their others. But again ME3 make the most sence.

Dude, ME3 is supposed to be the last stand against the Reapers. I'm pretty sure all hell will break loose and everyone will look like hell too....

I'm 99% sure it's ME3. To me it's just obvious.

Assassin's Creed was also intended to be a trilogy and it still is... and now we have Brotherhood.

Even the armour Mr. Spaceman is wearing looks like it's mass effect.

It even has the two slots in the back that are meant for holding weapons.

To me, the footage looks more like the gritty present/immediate future than clean, far away Mass Effect.

Trailer dude reminds me of Statham, or a young Rooker.

The only thing that I don't like about this is that once again Bioware managed NOT to announce a new DLC.
