What do you mean? How do we even know they used prototypes out on the battlefield? Why instead of choosing the more plausible choice, that it is indeed the Incisor rifle, we grasp straws and say "No, it's a prototype during the First Contact War"?

That war happened in 2157 right? The Incisor Rifle was newly introduced into ME in ME2 like it says, which is 2185, WELL after the First Contact War.

They were using prototypes of it almost 3 decades earlier? I think the much more reliable theory is...well, it's not the First Contact War.

No. Especially when its a 2 second teaser they know will be stripped and analysed. Also it would be easier for them to make a generic model than perfectly replecate the Incisor. So it had to be done on purpose.

You know what I think? I think the reason why Bioware has said this is a "brand new game" is because they want to make this announcement a surprise and thus didn't want to hint that this is a continuation of a pre-existing Bioware franchise.

Although it is hard to accept, I do suppose this character might be actualy badly drawn Shepherd. No one said they have to give Defalut Shpeherds image in all the teasers and it wouldn't be any mistery should they use def Shep's face in the teaser.

1) The game is Mass Effect 3

2) The shooter is a companion character

3) The shooter will be voiced by Michael Madsen

I get the feeling giving him a weapon and armour that the community would easily recognize was part of the plan with this teaser.

"Brand new game" doesn't even rule out it being ME3, although I still think it'll be the start of a new series in the Mass Effect universe.

It's not Shepard.  If they did make it Shepard that would make it obvious that it's a Mass Effect game and I doubt they'd deliberately mutillate Shepard's default appearance for the sake of surprise.

The guy in the video is probably a companion.  Mass Effect 2's first teaser had a companion so it wouldn't be unexpected.

This is Bioware. They have no problems screwing up dates in there own series or making plotholes. They want to have the Incisor rifle in the first contact war then they will.

Bioware can and will if it makes them money. Money is more important to them now.

The idea of femshep getting another finger... is... well... I don't know what to say about that.

Anyway, cover/poster Shepard is the canon Shepard so of course his image will be used for all Mass Effect promo stuff. This chap in the teaser, though, is not Shepard.

Kraidy: Yet again, putting a weapon that wasn't developed for nearly 30 years after the time period a prequel takes place in, especially considering its just a minor weapon, not a plot point, really isn't that much of a problem, compared to some of the epic continuity errors of other devs.

That would be poor marketing as they would confuse people. Better to stick with one iconic figure that is immediatly recognisable. It might have worked if they had an iconic femshep from ME1's marketing but they don't so it would be stupid to make one now.

Bioware's artists aren't so untalented that they can't even draw a male Shepard. There is NO way that person is a badly drawn Shepard, that would be so stupid!

They draw everything else perfectly but then screw up Shepard?  I doubt it.
