It sold well, excellent game, but uncomparable to the titan that is ME series.

Well exactly it was the first in the franchise and they showed both genders off the bat. That isn't the case with ME.

i believe its a CGI trailer, and if it is I think they would have had to deliberately create it for the trailer.

This is a CGI trailer. Everything you see is made from scratch so that argument makes no sense. Also they would be stupid to lead us on like this because they're lazy. Just no.

That could work, but that would interfear with War Hero.

The war with the batarians was fought on several fronts, it's fine to justify not seeing Shepard.  Alternately, they could allow to import a Shepard, who will make a cameo in their ME2 appearence, and talk like their import's morality, while fufilling their role in the story (butcher of Torfan or hero of Elysium).
