It doesn't really matter. And to make the first contact war interesting, Bioware would seriously have to rewrite the game's history.
As it is now, the First Contact war goes like this...
Turians show up, see humans activating relay, destroy human ships, follow one to Shaanxi, bomb the planet into the stone age, human fleet shows up, destroys turian ships, humans and turians gear for war, but the asari step in and a diplomatic solution is reached.
