I cannot, for the life of me, get the lightmapper to render a light map for my exterior levels. I have built one that is basiclaly just a small rectangel with nothign on it but a start point, a sun, a single baked light (ambient), for simple test purposes, and a more extravagent map with ltos of objects etc, but i cannot get either one to render a light map successfully. I have read these boards and the wikis through and through and tried just about everything from multiple uninstalls/reinstalls, to manually registering the engine.dll, to trying first the acvtive python, and then uninstallign that and trying the python org wiht the win extensions. Nothing seems to work. It will start to render lightmaps, get about halfway through, and then it just hangs there. Eclipseray.exe remains running, but it never completes. It just hangs, even after about 30 mins on the simple test level with nothing in it. Any ideas or suggestions as to what the problem could be ? I would really like to do some mods and custom adventures, but it is very discouraging when I cant get anythign I create in the level editor to work because I cant render a lightmap for the thing.  I realy dont want to have to uninstall and reinstall everythign again. There must be somthign stupid thats preventing the thing from working. And yes, I have tried to render the lightmaps in single player. Perhaps I need to post to local before I can render the lightmap from single player ? I sort of thought that was what had to be done AFTER rending the lightmap in order to see the changes. My sys is a 4 core 2.66 intel with dual 8800GTX nvidia, 2 gb memory. I have used lots of toolsets from various games in the past and never had such troubles before. Any ideas and suggestions to get this thign workign would be greatly appreciated.

Toolset is apparently ver 1.01 (the latest), and lightmapper is 1.2 (included wiht toolset), although I downloaded the lightmapper script (ver 1.2) as well, it appears to be the same.

According to the lightmapper thread, this hanging of eclipseray is a level editor problem and not a lightmapper problem ? And I presume it has not been fixed and never will be ? Does anybody know for sure ? What a dissappointment :(

Did you try this?

Tools > Options > Level Editor > Lightmapper Command

Change -cpus=2 to --cpus=1

If that's not the problem, are you getting any error messages in the log window?

The Lightmapper does work for many people (with a few issues that we have learned to work around).

I did go into the options and removed the terse command, and changed the CPU to 1 yes. I get no error mesages at all that I recall. I sort of gave up a few days ago, after many frustrating hours. I will try again tonight to lightmap[ a basically blank exterior level and see what it does. My recollection is that it just hangs after the raytracer 1.2 (?) starts to execute. Nothing pops up showing its processing or anything..it just hangs there. I have left it for more then 30 minutes on a blank 64 meter square, to ensure it just wasnt super slow or somthing, but after thirty minutes or so it was still just hanging there with nothing showing (no processing, no errors...nothing). I will experiment a bit with it again tonight and see what happens. One thing I didnt try was having the python app runing alongside the toolset, but i sort of doubt that woudl matter...as I imagine the necessary exe would be called from the toolset. Anyways... I will play with it some more tonight.

Agreed, you shouldn't need to run python separately. Also, I suggest you don't run any other programs while lightmapper is executing (same applies to other level processes, especially Do All Local Posts).
