I pre-ordered The Witcher 2 as soon as it was possible to pre-order. The devs are probably the last independent (no EA or Activision, no casual console crappy games) studio that makes GREAT games. They deserve every penny. No DRM is a good decision. Every game is cracked in the end, most of them within day(s), so instead of wasting money on pointless protection, that hassels only the legit buyers anyway, they did what anyone with half a brain would do. Remove the protection. Good for them.

I'm sure some copies will have protection, depending on who you buy from.

Retail is probably gonna be SecuROM (I think that's what was used with TW1), Steam will be Steam, Impulse will be Impulse and the others will probably have something else.

Im glad that CD Projekt is going all the way with this CE but i'd be happy with just artbook, soundtrack, making-of-dvd, poster and a t-shirt. Already hoarding so much stuff on my shelves, don't need more.

Well you are almost in luck.  Amazon.com shows that the US Premium Edition (essentially the Normal Retail Edition) comes with the making of DVD, the soundtrack, and a paper map.

While I'm not exactly a big fan of that head bust, I have to admit that's a LOT of content they've packed into the CE. (I was personally hoping for a replica of the wolf amulets the Witchers wear.) I was planning to get the CE anyway; I liked the Witcher and I think CD Projekt does good work, so I want to support them in their endeavours.

Witcher 2 CE announcement I love how he says back in the day premium edition of games used to be regular games and thats the reason for having the map, art book and extras in the "regular" edition of the game.

Thanks for that link!

At 14:30 the announcement starts that really makes it clear that if you're going to buy the game digitally then gog.com is where you should do it, especially if you live in Europe and get the store credit to erase the currency conversion rates of USD/EUR/GBP. This is a really good deal and I for one will pre-order there. I really want to encourage companies to release games without drm and I hope they will have much success with that version.

On the other hand, hiring blood thirsty lawyers to fight piracy, that's something I don't want to encourage.

Well, so far antipiracy has always been a slap to buyers and better playing experience for pirates, so trying to attack only pirates is a nice change.

It is. Don't get me wrong, I like that they're targeting pirates.

But litigation hasn't always worked well either. What we've seen in the music industry is firms bullying and harassing people, sometimes the wrong people, and the fines are way too heavy for the crime committed. I hope they don't make these mistakes.

well I think they will be verify if someone really have a pirated version before they would send a "punishment note"

I'll be surprised if they follow through with it. The cost could easily outweigh any benefits they get from doing so unless they go after the massive "seeders", and those will not be easy for them to find.

I think, truth be told, CDProjekt looked brilliant with the Premium edition, but within a week they made themselves (In my opinion) look like a bunch of arses. What's it going to do for them? Nothing. I think they should focus on rewarding those who buy the game (With things like the premium edition and no DRM) rather than going after the pirates.

Maybe it's more of a bluff than anything. But they're a clever bunch. They may just have a surprise for pirates in the actual game.

I just hope enough people try and counter it so the trial lawyers will be occupied long enough to stop spaming my TV with asbestos ads for a week or two.

I hope you're right. I just can't see this "OMG WE FINE PIRATES!" stance working too well for them.

Tell me about it.  I bought a retail copy of Assassin's Creed II that is worthless since the key was already hacked, store of course won't take it back.  Frisbee time.

I could care less about CD Projekts motives. $44 for The Witcher 2 with an exclusive PDF artbook from gog.com is more than enough reason for me to buy. If Activision or EA was publishing then we would be paying $60 for less content.

In the UK, Gog's Witcher 2 (And by extension, Steam and most other digital distributors) is more expensive than a standard retail game. Amazon have Premium for £25, though! :D

He means the premium edition. Really, there is only two versions of the game from what I understand. The premium ( regular ) edition still comes with the map, game guides, bonus cd's, etc.
