In Origins I always name him "Skipper" the name of my German Shepard I had growing up. In DA2 I always name him "Maverick" the name of my current sheepdog mix.

I call it Champion habitually. I am uncertain to what degree this results from watching "Annie" too many times. But I think it's the perfect name for that dumb-lookin' dog.

My Warden was a Dwarf Commoner so I thought it'd be neat if she started calling her dog Salroka. Not really a name for him but a title of endearment.

City Elf: Mabari because she just liked the sound of the word, and liked to remind people that she had one. =)
Mage Elf: Djab Djab. In Haitian Vodou (the theme of that playthrough), djabs are personal spirits that belong to a specific person, sometimes via a magical contract. Since Mabari are dogs bred by magic and "imprint" on a specific owner, well...
Dwarf Commoner: Tawny because it was the first word that came to mind when she saw him.
Human Noble: Harley because it means "hare field" and I think he would chase rabbits on the grounds.
Dalish: Assanshirel or "Assanshi" for short, which in Elvish means "travelling arrow." He ran so quickly toward her on the abondoned farm after Ostagar that she was immediately reminded of a flying arrow, and so named him accordingly.

my dalish called hers Fenlen (for Fenarel and Tamlen), my noble called hers Baron, the the city elf and the mage will call it something silly like pooky or spike.
