Mattock, if for no other reason than that I can at least hear them shooting at something.

I usually go with the Mattock. It does more damage hit-for-hit, and that's what I need from my squad mates.

^^What she said.  I don't even pick up the gun on Garrus recruitment mission so that I don't accidently get Grunt to have it equiped ( that has happened to me a few times because the game thinks its an improvement for you ).

I give them the Vindicator. I don't know if it does more or less damage, but I'd bet Vindicator is more effective. Squadmates use the Mattock very poorly (nowhere near its potential), so the three round Vindiator burst should be better.

Zaeed, Legion, Garrus and Thane use Sniper Rifle (Incisor, Legion has Widow) anyway.
Grunt has Claymore.

So the only one left with AR training is Samara, and Vindicator just looks better in her hands imho.

Hmm, I usually give them Mattock (squad incendiary or disrupt ammo) and they kill enemies a lot faster than they do with Vindicator.
Grunt sucks with Claymore Shotgun, he is much more effective with Mattock atleast on my playthroughs.

I always give them the vindicator, they just don't seem to fire fast enough with the mattock.

Vindicator, even if the latter is more damage, Squad-mates are always best with Burst-Fire than Selective fire. They do not fire fast enough, and Burst-Fire weapons insures they fire a few hitting rounds, and then go back to cover.

I'd like to see a good comparison test done for this, I've always wondered it myself. I always give them the Mattock, but I have a feeling the Vindicator would be better. Just because of the Mattocks semi-auto firing, the squad doesnt use it as well as they could because they fire relatively slow. The Vindi's burst might work better for them than it does for Shep. I give them the Mattock because it does more damage shot-for-shot, and I can actually hear them shooting, which is helpful. I might start giving them the Vindi and looking out for a difference, though.

I used to do that on certain Blood Pact Missions.



Even if the Mattock is stronger, the fire rate is less than desirable. Incisor or not, my support with AR's should be putting out some sort of suppressive fire when I don't want them to use their sniper rifles.
