I appears when your video card is just too awesome for a game engine made in 1998. The fix will apply to any Infinity Engine game -- Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale, etc.
• Download and install the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit.
• Run the Compatibility Administrator.
• Click the "New" button up top to make a new database.
• Click the "Fix" button to create a fix.
• Name your fix (Suggestion: The name of the game).
• Browse to find the game's executable file. Not the launcher, the game. (BGMain2.exe, torment.exe, etc.)
• Click "Next."
• On the Compatibility Modes screen, click "Next."
• On Compatibility Fixes, check the box for "ForceDirectDrawEmulation."
• Click "Next."
• Click "Finish."
• Save your database somewhere you will find it (like the game folder).
• If you have any more Infinity Engine games, you can add their fixes to this database as well.
To run the game:
• Open Compatibility Administrator.
• Open your database.
• Select your Application.
• Click the "Run" button up top.
In Planescape: Torment, you will now notice another graphical glitch: Cursor trails on menus. The trails disappear after a few seconds. It is far less annoying than the flickering green portrait box glitch. There is no fix for both, you have to pick one or the other.
HOW TO: Fix the flickering green party character portrait border glitch
