I hope so. I feel like I've had every possible argument in the DA:2 forums and have happily moved on to Football Manager 2011 as a source of entertainment. So more new news (on DA:2 or ME3/whatever this is) is definitely welcome.

More or less the same, but instead of playing football manager, I restarted playing Ufo : enemy unknown....Ahhh, great old times!:)

Anyway, back on the topic, I think that Dave got it right. It seems that this is a ME if not a MMO. Too bad that chances of it being BG3 are now 0.

It's Dragon Effect for reals. What you don't see is that the dude is shooting at an Archdemon, the next Blight is in the ~future~.

Wow, off topic? Unless they really are injecting gritty shoooter action into Dragon Age?

They posted the announcement in all the announcement forums as not to make it a totally obvious giveaway.

If they only posted it in the ME forums that'd be almost a confirmation.

It's called announcements. They tend to do them across announcement forums from time to time to hide any confirmation.

For your viewing convenience. It looks kinda post-apocalyptic.

All that means is "destroyed infrastructure/buildings" though. That could describe any warzone, or area that has been a warzone. It looks like he's watching the entrance to the remains of the facility he's guarding.

Shanxi warzone after the city got bombed by the Turians.

There's also a shadow to the upper right.

I hope it isn't Shanxi unless it is a multiplayer game, because then the single player campaign would be a sideshow anyway. We know what happens at Shanxi, I don't really have any desire to re-enact it.

Personally I think people are jumping on the Shanxi thing far too easily.  Too big of a leap, logically speaking, based simply on the fact it's a warzone and there's a human.

Meh.... If its ME3 or ME related thats cool I guess. But if its some new IP with yet another gritty, grimy manly man dude with a gun in washed out post apocalyptic ruins? Oh yes, don't strain yourself for originality there BioWare...

I hope its not based on the first contact war.

Like I said on the ME forums, TFCW would not make an exciting game.

There's not too many war zones that don't have Shepard in them, Shanxi being one of the only ones. If the game was say... about the Skyilian Blitz or that Ruthless story planet, it would be odd not seeing a Shepard there but seeing him there would retcon what we already know.

ME1 and ME2 wise, there's no real war. So it has to be a prequel to sequel. Sequel would lock down some events in the timeline while prequel can expand upon the universe.

Knowing what happens at the war doesn't make the game any worse, just like how Reach was amazing even if we knew how it ended. :P

If it's made by Bioware Montreal, it'll be a multiplayer game.

I'm with Brock on this one. I trust Bioware, but really, another space marine? Not that we have any confirmation of him being a space marine (or even the protagonist, for that matter), but if that is the case I'll be pretty annoyed.

That we know of.  Yet.  Furthermore there's no reason to suspect Shepard isn't involved simply because the 3 second teaser doesn't show him.

Anyway, I would find Shanxi/The First Contact War hard to reconcile with the Aequitas theory, that I'm partial to obviously.

The problem with a game in ME-verse not concerning Shepard is that nothing that protagonist will do ever is going to match up to defeating the Reapers. Unless BioWare decides to either not have Shepard actually defeat them, or to pull a Man Behind the Man (in this case, a Space Squid Machine Behind a Space Squid Machine).

Both of which, to me, are detrimental to ME's integrity.

I suppose if it's multiplayer, a Shanxi turians vs humans conflict could make sense, but then, I'm just not going to be interested in it.

Plus it's not like this is a World War II franchise and we can deduce that because there's snow it's probably the Eastern Front.

It's a fictional story in a fictional setting. They could make anything up and it would enter the canon, that's why I'm trying to stick with what the given hints actually point towards instead of looking for answers as to what scenario the 3-second clip might imply within the existing storyline.

I downloaded the teaser trailer and looked frame by frame. Contained
there in is a pic of a guy I don't recognize leaning out of a window
with what appears to be an incisor sniper rifle. Below in the distance
look like streets covered with debris. Doesn't say much, does it? One
thing you could take away would be that if this mysterious man has an
incisor sniper rifle, which means it's not a prequel.
