What made BioWare games so great when I started getting into them was that there was NO ONE else making games like them.

Now they're copying everyone else.

Sorry to say it guys but I'm pretty sure it's probably the FPS. I mean, it makes sense that they'd mention it and now a trailer. *sigh* why Bioware...

Couldn't have said it better Mr. Shatner...
It's sad really, that they compromised their values and are no longer the industry standard. They've lowered their quality to that of all of the other common games. Back in the day, Bioware used to mean something. It was unique. But I guess nothing lasts forever.

I think we may all be jumping to conclusions all to quickly. Who's to say it's going to be just like the "generic multiplayer"/CoD clone? There may be completely new aspects to this still unannounced game's multiplayer experience that no other game has. Furthermore, this may not even be multiplayer as no official announcement has been made; it's all just been rumors...

Don't give up so easily on the notions of contrived rumors and speculation.

I think that part of the point of that post was to show that Bioware may not be working on a multiplayer FPS at all, but that it may have been some form of confusion with EA's Montreal studio. As for what the new game is, I'm definitely leaning towards ME3. Too many coincidences and things pointing towards the Mass Effect universe to be a new IP, and I just don't think they'd make a full-blown spin-off in the middle of their trilogy. It's not unheard of (Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, for example), but it just seems like a strange decision.

On the other hand, if you follow the timeline between ME1 and ME2, you'll find that we're due for our first teaser pretty soon now (if they were to follow the same development cycle and timeframe). We saw the first teaser for ME2, what, about a year after the first one was released? And then ME2 didn't get released for another year following. It's not as unlikely as a lot of people think.

"Finally, former Raven Software (Quake 4, Wolfenstein) lead designer Manveer Heir moved to BioWare Montreal this summer to work on Mass Effect, giving the developer some well-known multiplayer shooter talent."

blah, i'll pass..both were fun for 25 minutes and glitchy as ****

Screw this, where's Jade Empire 2?

Consider me intrigued though. I get the sense that it's a different IP, both from the way certain websites are reporting it and from the way the trailer says "the makers of Mass Effect and Dragon Age".  Makes me think it's something outside of these franchises.

I'll still take a new Jade Empire though

People are deciding what kind of game it will be based on single screenshot? Seriously? I think I'll wait and hear more before assuming anything.

IF it turns out to be a FPS, or yet another squad based shooter, then....well, I'm unlikely to be very interested at all. If it turns out to be single player rpg-ish then I'll buy it without need for any more information about the game content  (Bioware + SPRPG + Me = Guaranteed Purchase). If it turns out to be something completely different (rts?) then I might be curious enough to look into it some more.

Regardless, will be interested in the actual reveal when the time comes. But I have to say (with all due petulance), I hate this kind of 'marketing' stunt. Just tell folks what they want to know already.

Yeah yeah, I know. Complaining about gimicky marketing stunts is going to as effective as pushing diarrhea uphill solely by blowing through a narrow straw. /Grump

people are deciding what kind of game it will be because the word is it is going to be a multiplayer centered shooter that appeals to CoD fans (mostly 10 year olds) and it's going to be designed in part by the guy who helped design Unreal 4 and Wolfenstein. Plus, EA is responsible for that abomination series called Battlefield. I can't imagine Bioware's amazing writing ability saving what that game will be.

I don't think i've so much self absorbed hipster spewing garbage crammed into one paragraph ever, bravo

"i liked bioware when it had values man!" lol i mean my god, do you even read what you write? or would the gag reflex from it be too much to bare and you just free thought the hipster rheteric?

and for what? a unannounced game with virtualy no info on it? but yes CLEARLY your hispter senses are tingling and you can predict every aspect of what it'll be enough to write a snarky inept paragraph! oh and extra points for going the derp distance by signing your post lol

I think it's possible that this is in fact a new intellectual property and the inclusion of the incisor rifle is just fan service. Kind of like how Quake has the BFG 9000.

Hmm. A rifle.
How interesting. Not.
Yawn.

Mods: You might want to delete or move this thread since it's "Dragon Age II News and Announcements" after all.

the word? From what source? Rampant speculation does not gain veracity simply by adding hearsay ;) But I'll grant you I've seen rumours along those lines on some news sites. So, I guess I understand your point.

If the rumours are correct I'll be very interested to see how Bioware approaches the marketing for the title.
After all, for DAO and DA2 the marketing seems to virtually ignore the rpg fans and tries to win over non-rpg core gamers. For a COD-similar title, there's likely to be a much bigger need for BW to market it to their longtime fans who have become fans because of Bioware's rpg pedigree, and are likely to be very wary of a multiplayer/COD style game.

Lord knows they could never induce me to buy a multiplayer-focussed game. But I suspect some longtime BW fans might be convince-able with clever marketing. [snark]That's assuming that BW's marketing team still remembers the kinds of things that appeal to their longtime fans. There seems to be scant evidence of that in recent times ;)[/snark]

Regardless, while I hope BW makes money on the title, in all honesty I hope the sales and profits are such that they send a message to BW to stay focussed on the RPG-genre where they built their reputation. I say that because I worry that if it does sell 10 million units in a week (or whatever) then EA may direct BW to switch gears entirely and abandon the SPRPG game altogether. Which, IMO, would be like Michelangelo taking up plumbing because he could make more money. Understandable, but tragic.

Hopefully, though, the rumours are like the cake.

Man are you guys still stuck on the possible MP in the game. The guys at the Mass Effect section say that the game might be Bioware taking on Alpha Protocol. Your thoughts?

People are not looking at what this could mean for the series. Even if this is a multi-player first person shooter it doesn't change the fact that Mass Effect 3 is still going to come out. What this game could do however is create a lot of new Mass Effect fans thus dramatically increasing Mass Effect 3's sales and prolonging the life of the franchise even further.

Great move by Bioware I think.

Am I the only one to think it might be a major bridging DLC for ME2-3? Hell, maybe BW decided to do it in an expansion kind of way?

Whatever this is I want to see the whole cinematic for it. I hope for another TORish one ;) I just cant get enough of them! I hope it will be revealed DEC 11th, right?
