Just saying, it would be awesome.

I hope it's more ME goodness, but not only does it look like a new IP, but the use of the phrase "their next game" (in the VGA trailer,) make it even more unlikely that it's ME. It's obviously not their next game to be released, which makes it sound like it's implying the next new game. Emphasis on the new.

I left out that just because Shepard isn't shown in the clip doesn't mean that Shepard can't be involved, or it can't be part of the Mass Effect storyline. It could be similar to Jacob being the protagonist of Mass Effect galaxy. The identity of the character in the video could be anybody, even some mook Shepard shoots with a pistol. We can't know. That's why I just decided to take the Incisor (something that objectively is the Incisor model, re-used asset or not) and the given barcode hints in my guesswork.

Everything else is too open to interpretation.

kylecouch wrote...

There a large bridge and a river running through a destroyed city....this is plainly obvious...and I hope you realize that rifle model exsists in real life...it's not a ME exclusive...

Depends on distance and perspective.  You see a destroyed city and a large bridge.  I see a walkway, a courtyard, wall, and a destroyed facility.  It works as a city, to me, if the guy is sitting in the middle of a skyscraper.  To me it looks like he's sitting in a 2-3 story building looking down at a courtyard. But like I said, that doesn't matter.  The video and the clues do not have to be pointing to the same place.

And if they wanted to use a non-Incisor rifle model they could have, but they didn't.  I'm assuming they did it for a reason.  I could be wrong. But all of the other theories I've read about what the barcode hints are pointing to are borderline ludicrous.

Putting a face that isn't Shepard in a ME add is just plain bad business sense...I can't Bioware doing anything that moronic.

Anyone else want to bet that this will be a far-back prequel to ME, entitled ME3, and the true third title will be entitled Mass Effect 4?

It could be Mass Effect Galaxy (Jacob Taylor was protagonist) on steroids.  Who knows?  My "theory" doesn't address what game they're hinting at, simply what the barcode hints are pointing to.  We don't have enough evidence to reliably guess what game they mean anyway.  Just taking the information they are giving us and using that.

Maybe it's their next new game to be announced.

And taking barcode hints and actually thinking that they are a reference to a random and obscure planet in a remote system that held no value to anything and held a random N7 mission that was basicly a copy and paste mission of UNC: Missing Survey Team is just as far fetched as any other theory right now.

Perhaps not...however that trailer is clearly this man sitting in a skyscrapper overlooking a totaly ruined city...and considering there are not cities on that planet that in itself is a leap, also considering he looks nothing at all like Shepard.
I don't buy that it's a city at all.  A destroyed facility?  Sure.  A city?  Not sold.  And yes, I've seen the high res screenshots.

That being said, the barcode hints and the video do not have to be pointing towards the same location.   My theory only uses the video's Incisor rifle as a hint that it's in the Mass Effect universe (I don't subscribe to the "re-used item" theory).  The game could take place on more than one planet so while the hints might genuinely be referring to Aequitas, the planet in the video might be entirely different.  They aren't mutually exclusive.
Amagoi wrote...

Could you link to where your Aequitas theory was? I'm interested in reading it if you don't mind.
I'll just repost it.
upsettingshorts wrote...
The first two clues (plus a Mass Effect rifle) point to Aequitas, a planet in Mass Effect 2 known for its "Iron Canyons" and a surface temperature of -128.5F (-89C).

It was also the site of a sidemission, N7: Abandoned Mine in which a Reaper indoctrination device turned a research team into husks & abominations.

Here's the description:
Home
to the famous Iron Canyons, Aequitas has reddish iron oxide dust (hematite) covering much of its surface and significant blue cobalt deposits that freckle the terrain. Turian explorers have discovered hot springs in the polar ice caps, heated by magma in the planet's crust. In a strange combination of science and hucksterism a small facility exports water from these springs, which is bottled and sold as having medicinal properties. The funds are then used to maintain a research station, which has discovered some fossil evidence that Aequitas once harbored microscopic life, based on deoxyribonucleic acids in these springs.

Thanks for the repost! I remember that mission now, it was pretty difficult. I've been wanting to see a ME game focus on one particular planet for a while now, so I hope you turn out right. Good research to back up your theory too.

No it isn't.  The barcode hints refer to very specific attributes that are matched, precisely, by a planet in Mass Effect.

Well haircut of this guy on the picture is same as in character creator of ME and ME2.

His clothes looks kinda futuristic.

Rifle looks like modified Incisor, but I'm not sure.

Environment, around him, broken window etc. doesn't look futuristic, but its ruined so i guess that guy is in some city ruin.Architecture , from this small picture, looks like Human one (its definitely not Asari, might be Krogan though,

Other pictures I don't understand.

Now, this might be wishful thinking, but I kinda hope that's on Earth. We never had chance to explore Earth in ME Universe.I'm still not 100% sure thats even Mass Effect, but it might be new DLC or ME3 since facial structers on that guy is unfamiliar to me.

So has anyone noticed that the footage the use when saying "From the creators of Mass Effect" looks new? I don't think I've ever seen that footage in a trailer or in the game... maybe that's what the "Look Closer" at the end meant?

Yes it is...because these things can be linked to real life statistics that exsist in reality...Besides if they wanted people to know it's Mass Effect they would make it a planet more people would know about...not some random planet that holds no value to anything...in addition they would not commit this much money to a "ME Galaxy's" type of game...Jacob was the star because it was a low budget (not to mention crappy) CELL PHONE game...I doubt they would make a mainstream ME game about anyone but Shepard until the trilogy was complete.

I'm thinking they'll resurect Shattered Steel. What happens to iron that gets too cold? It can break.

Okay, find me a "real life"  thing that matches both iron and -89 Celsius.  Both.  At the same time.  Or it is not a better comparison than Aequitas.

It's a random, valueless planet right up until the point they tell us it has value.  That's how fiction works.  This isn't a World War 2 game and we can deduce some next game will be based on the Eastern front because it has snow in it.

That's why it was just a guess that has nothing to do with my theory, that the barcode hints that say "iron" and "-89C" might - in fact - be pointing to a planet filled with iron with a surface temperature of -89C is the extent of my theory.

The idea that anyone would claim that isn't reasonable is mind-boggling.

Iron is not steel.  It's only mostly iron.  If they wanted to give us a hint pointing to steel, they would have done so.

strange coincidence, ill give it that. i highly HIGHLY doubt it has anything to do with fallout, but rather that image might just be pointing at a partnership with obsidian. no idea what to make of this really, thats just an idea, and unlike most people i love obsidian for their rpg spirit and would love to see what their capable of teaming up with bioware. its certainly in the realm of possibilities. but this is pure speculation on my part, it seems pretty doubtful. but hey they did tell us to look closer, doesnt get more paranoid attention to detail then that.

If it's a new ME based shooter I'd probably give it a go even though I'm not the biggest shooter gamer out there but I do reasonably well shooting up bad guys in ME but it's a fairly forgiving and somewhat arcade-y shooter IMO so....

If it's simply a teaser for ME3, then I'll be very happy indeed as I eagerly await the conclusion to the trilogy.

I never played Shattered Steel but I'm open to new games and a new story from the superb writers at Bioware.

Or maybe it's just DLC but the video seemed to suggest it's a whole new game so I guess we'll find out in December.
