Boy, would it be just awfull if with all these teases they're throwing at us, and how they all, in our minds, connect to ME, that in the end it turns out to be something completely different?

BioWare has gone on record to state that Mass Effect is not going to be confined exclusively to the Shepard trilogy. There will be other Mass Effect related games at some point in time. The main trilogy we are getting now is the primary 'Shepard' plot arc. The trilogy will see the end of Shepards story, but there will be others.

^^ Thats even better...Earth gets destroyed and everyone gets turned into husks...ooo
Earth never got destroyed in the ME universe and even if it's a spin-off i doubt they would go that off canon.
You....You realize there -is- no canon for the events of ME3, right? There's nothing set after or during it. They could do whatever they -want- to Earth if this game is set after ME2.

Two points.
ME2 is now one of the top 10 best rated games of all time.
Bioware is now owned by EA.
This turning out to be an ME spinoff would only suprise me slightly more than if it's ME3.

also note that the soldier's armor has the trademark hexagons that Cerberus people wear, like Miranda and Jacob.

yeah but... thats like connecting to the halo franchise. Who really is that interested in other characters but the one they are most familiar with?

Plenty of people would be interested in exploring the huge mythos available in the Mass Effect universe, and the reality is you could not do this with just Shepard.
Shepard is obviously the most interesting character at the moment as she/he is the basis for the Mass Effect trilogy. He/she probably wont continue beyond the trilogy, just like the books and comics are too all about different characters.

Those hexagons on armor mean absolutely nothing nowadays. Seriously people, stop talking about the hexagons, you see them in every game nowadays. Look at Crysis, hexagon as well...and at was before Mass Effect.......hexagons, on armor....mean......nothing.
If that was the only thing pointing towards it being ME related, your statement would hold ground. However, with all the viral marketing hints we've been receiving and how they all seem to relate in someway to ME...
1. The ME sniper rifle
2. first barcode is the 'mass' of iron
3. second barcode is 128.5 F the coldest temperature on earth recorded in Vostok, Antarctica, (there is a star system in ME1 of the same name, and in ME2 there is a planet Aequitas that has the temperature -89°C which is approx. the same temp.)
4. third barcode links you to SIS's website, SIS is UK secret service, in London. David Anderson was from London.
5. fourth barcode, is the cover of the 2007 rerelease of The Clash's (a British punk rock band, from London) album, The Singles, which has many songs titles that relate to ME.
ex. "Should I stay or Should I Go." reference to the famous, "I should go." quote
"Magnificent Seven" refers to N7
"Remote Control" and "Complete Control" refers to Harbinger's quote "Assuming direct control!"
"London Calling" another London referance
And I'm sure there is more and I'm sure if more clues are given we'll probably connect them back to ME again.
So with much of the clues given to us suggesting ME, why can't hexagonal patterns on armor be just another?
Also don't forget that BW Montreal has been working on something ME related that supposedly wasn't ME3.
In the end while I hope it is ME related, it could all just be coincidence and we are just reading far to much into it.

The first 2 means its Mass Effect. The next tells the subtitle which I am sure London is part of.
Like:
Mass Effect: London
Except there probably is something missing in the subtitle, that I don't know yet.
