I think an ME spinoff, even if it is a dumb FPS, as a bridge between ME2 and ME3 would be a great move by BioWare (or EA) business wise.

In Jan, PS3 gets ME2 - In say July or Aug 2011: we all get "Call of Mass: Duty Effect" (the mystery game)  and in Jan- March 2012 we all get ME3.

BioWare will get PAID every 6 months or so.

I don't think this game will be ME related at all; Consider this - PS3 owners have yet to enjoy the delights of the game and story yet; it makes no sense to create hype and expectation over a possible ME3 or ME spin off whilst excluding the PS3 gamers who have yet to get sucked into the storyline.

If ME3 or spinoff was released, it would make better sense to include PS3 gamers in the excitement also.

My guess? a new IP. Edmonton has ME, Austin has DA. Montreal has....??!

Actually, it could be argued that another Mass Effect based game would be really good advertisement for ME2 on PS3. The basical idea would be: "You reckon this look really amazing don't you? Get in on the action and see what all the fuss is about and buy ME2 for the PS3 so you know what's happening."

Personally: I hope its Mass Effect 3 I'd be happy as hell cause I don't want to wait, if it's not but ME related, than I'm still happy cause it lets me explore the ME universe past Shepard and I get another new Space Opera video game. And if it isn't either, I won't be fussed cause it's Biowares and their track record says I'll love it.

This makes a lot of sense, since it is Montreal that's making the PS3 port, right?

That would mean the hinted game might be for all three platforms as well, but wouldn't it be better timing to release the new game before or at the same time as the PS3 port? So one drives the sales of the other, and vice versa?

I have a feeling the mystery game will be like an ME-lite, like some of the Half-life sequels where you played as a soldier during the events of the first game instead of Freeman. So, they could be re-using models from the first two games in the game coming out?

Would be pretty cool to have a multiplayer level fighting between Geth and Council armies on the Citadel during Sovereign's attack.

perhaps the mystery game is a "clash" of ME related ideas come to life.

of course what that means is up for speculation as is this entire situation but for example...

Renegades VS Paragons in a FPS. (i kind of doubt this, but having read some ideas here, this could happen...maybe.)

or maybe even something pre-dating the events of ME1 and ME2 that leads up to, and ends when Shep is picked up by the Normandy for the first mission to Eden Prime. That would be awesome. We have a lot of side stories and with the mass effect novels we have Pre Mass Effect stories and a Post ME2 story involving Captain Anderson and Kahlee Sanders. Maybe this mystery game will be something to fill in the blanks (which may or may not involve shep) while we wait for ME3 which we all know is coming out in late 2011 - early 2012.

Not if you release it at the same time. The idea would be to advertise the new Mass Effect game with ME2. You have the right idea with using one game to drive the others sales up, but if you brought the other game out before ME2, ME2 probably wouldn't sell as much as it could because it would be classified as "old" for relaxed gamers. If the new game is released before or at the same time as ME2 then people would go to buy the new game as it is "new" compared to ME2. People also don't like spending to much money at the same time or in close distance to each other, relaxed gamers aren't expected to and probably won't spend $240 (Australian dollars, not sure what a normal PS3 game price is anywhere else but it's around 110 or 120 bucks here) on a product that is similar (no matter if it is an RPG or an FPS it's still Mass Effect).

However, the idea would be that if Mass Effect 2 is released and sells well on the PS3 and this new Mass Effect is released some 5 maybe 6 months later, than you already have Mass Effect 2 having plenty of time to capture the markets interest and you can build a new advertising campaign for the new game around ME2's succes for all consoles.

So Bioware is going to make ANOTHER sci-fi shooter franchise when another one is unfinished? Yeah...I seriously doubt that.

It may not be ME3, but it will almost certainly be in-universe. That's not in-game footage, though, I bet (it looks like that fancy 3D studio they always use). It could be an ME3 teaser with no in-game footage, which would start hype for the game without showing anything off. Just saying.

I was wondering if someone could take a look at the ExoGeni guards when you come back with the nerve grenades.

To me it looks like the uniform that the guy in the new teaser trailer is wearing????

If so then I really think that this is about our VS DLC.

All the clues "could" work for that.

We all have said how cool it would be for a trail so we could accomplish two things:

1. Get back in contact with Kaidan/Ashley and

2. Resolve Cerberus /Alliance conflict.

The Clues:

Clue 1. Guy with gun. Who is he aiming at? Where is he? If London earth okay. Could this be Alliance HQ?

Clue 2. The first two barcodes == 55.485 is a "MASS" and -128.5F is a temperature, in Physics an "EFFECT"

Clue 3. Another location? "QR3: http://www.sis.gov.u...me-welcome.html

Secret Service Intelligence (MI6).

Could be reinforcing that this is our DLC. The trial of Shepard. James Bond (Mi6) fought Spectres?

SPECTRE (SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion). Funny twist Cerberus is that. Also London again. Alliance HQ???

Clue 4.

The Clash/The Singles.

Well I would think we had a major clash on Horizon. And singles could be used to mean a DLC so it is not Mass Effect 1,2,or 3.

Anyway Just A Thought!!! and a wish!!!

First I highly doubt its a DLC, its a cinematic, and other DLCs don't have that
Second thing, Bioware wouldn't play this game where you guess it is, nor would they bother announcing it at the VGA

Call of Mass? Really? I can't se bioware going the FPS route, would be neat however I doubt it will happen.
Remember Blizzard's Starcraft FPS Ghost that never did get released? Because the people who enjoy bioware games are not interested in FPS (well I mean the fans of bioware want their types of games)

Oh hell no. If they're doing all this teasing for a game that'll come out in May, I'm going to get really pissed.

And when I get pissed, people get hate mail.

It's not a clear cause and effect, just anecdotal.

BioWare are working on a first person shooter. Whether it is Mass Effect related or not, we can only speculate, but they are, without a doubt, working on a first person shooter.

The evidence we have comes from a couple of job postings put up specifically for BioWare's Montreal studio. The positions were for programmers, designers, and artists for a "military-grade FPS" and "popular FPS". The job descriptions literally stated they were for a 'FPS', so unless by FPS they mean "Foot Protection Shoe" theyre indeed literally working on a first person shooter.

The general speculation is that it is Mass Effect related. The reasoning behind this is that BioWare Montreal is made up by a lot of Mass Effect staff (they worked on assets and side missions for ME2), and they recently hired an ex-Raven developer, who specified that whatever mystery game he was working on was indeed Mass Effect related. Now, that could be Mass Effect 3, but it certainly wouldn't hurt BioWare to have an experience shooter developer like the Raven dude on the team if they were indeed making a Mass Effect shooter.

Either way, I wouldn't be too worried about it. The shooter genre is a great one, it just cops a lot of crap because the most popular shooter also happens to be extremely mediocre and milked for every cent its worth. Games like, well, everything Valve has produced have been absolutely phenominal, and represent how high quality the shooter genre can be. People throw around phrases like 'mindless', but its really only the Call of Duty franchise that stoops this low, and the most hardcore of shooter fans tend to be aware that CoD is really pretty cheap and nothing special.

On another note, StarCraft: Ghost was cancelled because it failed to meet Blizzard's standard of quality. It was not being developed specifically by Blizzard, but instead farmed off to a different company. Blizzard were unhappy with the progress the game was making, so another developer took the reigns, and it didnt get much better. Blizzard didn't scrap it because it was outside of the norm, but simply because the game wasn't any good.

I think I may have just found another binary code. There's a new VGA trailer, and if you stop it at 00:07, there's a code.

That trailer is four days old, so it is not new, and we already know about that code. It is unrelated to BioWare's game, and instead Activision's 'Murder Your Maker' game.

Call of Mass: Duty Effect... WHAT YOU DON'T LIKE MY NAME????

What about Medal of Mass Effect? Tom Clancy's Rainbow Mass Effect 2.5??

And yeah BioWare put a job posting out a few months back looking for FPS developers. So yeah it could happen. It could be pressure from EA to push out an FPS since I agree, it's not not BioWare's style to do a FPS.
