Is anyone worried about lack of "official" gameplay footage?

BG2 had half the complexity of today's games and imo, the short cycle on ME2 shows as the atmosphere of the game is very michael bay simple.. But that's again my preference and opinion, I don't wish to get into a debate about it.

I'm guessing it was complex when they made it with the tools they had back then. It has been some years since then..

But I'm not worried about the dev cycle. If they didn't think they could do it they would probably push it back.

I've gone back and played ME1 so many times I've lost count.I've re-played ME2 three times.

The formula was certainly changed, and that is one of the things (out of many) that I don't like about ME2. The whole game I was playing intergalactic school bus until the end and that's when it picked up. But that only lasted for about an hour, and the end boss battle made me facepalm.

Ugh... it's like going from Terminator 2 to Transformers. That's pushing it a bit, I know, but you get what I mean. ;)

The only thing I'd add to that is that BG2's map system is known to be an enormous time sink; Bio had to punt a couple times in BG2 and reuse BG1 maps. Modern 3D development seems to be easier, or so some professionals have said. IIRC there are more fan-built NWN1 tilesets than fan-built IE maps.

I'd say the outrage towards that leaked footage was quite unexpected to them, and they're going to take extreme care with an official gameplay footage.

This is entirely possible.

Given the general nature of these forums I would have thought it was a given that there would be an outcry over most of the changes.

I don't think Bioware not showing much gameplay is too out of the ordinary. However, I've always thought that the extremely short dev cycle was really out of the ordinary.

Unless you figure the devs were lying about when work started on DA2, the DA2 cycle is approximately equal to BG2's cycle, and only a bit shorter than ME2's.

Why would they lie about it?

We're heading into the prime shopping season. We're talking about a game that won't even be released until 3 months AFTER that season. I assume Bioware and EA are hoping that some people make these purchases as gifts . . . kind of chancy to do so when you haven't seen any gameplay yet.

So yes, I find it odd.

Some people on these forums, when proven wrong or something with dev quotes or facts, will simply say that they (the devs and/or facts) were lying and that we're tools for believing them.

I'd say that the leak itself was unexpected; BW had much more control over what was available to the public before EA started showing their stuff at different events. I can't recall Bioware ever being that careless when they were showcasing their product on their own.

And I'm confident that we will see "official" gameplay footage before the pre-order deadline. Not doing so would create doubt and outrage where it currently doesn't exist.

As far as the short development time for DA2: DAO's time was also spent in developing the world and engine, and without the financial resources of EA. I'm figuring that BW wants to get the sequel out quickly, while the Warden's story is still fresh in the players minds, and the interest in the world of DA is still high; and while DA's engine is still capable of delivering something acceptable to the current market. It wouldn't surprise me to see a long wait for DA3 because of the need to develop a new engine.
