Some people thought so. Personally, I never got past the tutorial segments in either of them. The control system just annoyed the hell out of me, which is odd, because I don't think that NWN was that much different in that regard, but I did play that, and finished two of the three major expansions, some DLC, and several user made segments.
I was not enamored of Ultima (none of them), either. SSI's Gold Box games, though -- a blast, mostly.

Demon's Souls was fun for a while, but I got bored of it after a few days. It started to feel like a smaller version of WoW, what with all the grinding and farming that was starting to be required.

Unfortunately when you consider how bad NWN was and its 3 ****ty expansions I'd say Bioware still owes me around 80 dollars.
so how small is it for you to need to do this?

ROFL never made it past the tutorial?
BG2 is hands down the best D&D style single player RPG ever made, on any system, of all time. There is no debate.

Sorry, didn't get it. Could be because I ignored your comment after the word Oblivion.Crawling_Chaos wrote...
Oblivion is the best rpg ever because you can do quests and fight monsters.

It is BG that wasted its magnefortitude on you.

I thought Arena was better personally. I actually downloaded and played it about halfway through after Bethesda put it up on their site for free some 12 years after I played it on my first computer. The plot wasn't any better, but I've never played another game that matched the fear and suspense of an Arena dungeon crawl (for those who played it, how freaked out were you when the sound byte for a ghost or a lich played and you expected to be instagibbed by a fireball before you found them?) Oblivion put too much focus on the statistical side of character development with no focus on the personality side, similar to an online game. The problem was that it wasn't online.
