Found here. Nothing new but it seems the writer knows the PC gamers will read it and cry fowl and tries to explain.

The lack of any tactical overview still saddens me. I mean, that was how I played DAO most of the time. The overhead view offers the most flexibility, and it's more easy to control and coordinate an entire party when attacking enemies. Otherwise, I would have gotten swiss-cheesed by the boss characters more often.

I am disappointed, but I still have DA2 pre-ordered...

Meh, its another console preview. If Totillo had previewed the PC version then I might buy into his attempts at alleviating the concerns of the PC version being gimped. ANd quite frankly I'd much rather read what Mike Fahey, who loved PC Origins, has to think about DA2.

Bottom line is that this was still a preview of the console version.

So is it official that there's no tactical view for the pc version? I remember something about it being not as far away, but that there's none at all?

6 skill trees per character with 5-8 skills each plus upgrades? I haven't heard that before.

According to the article there is an "option to zoom the camera out, just not up. Console gamers won't get that."

Who the hell need to zoom it out ?

I like how this thing is written, it's a nice change of pace from carelessly describing the game as a hack and slash inspired by Mass Effect.

New stuff about the skill trees. More specific. I also like the part where they say that char customization goes for depth rather than breadth.

...So overhead view is gone altogether. We only get to zoom back, not up. Pretty sure the demo build is old, though, and Laidlaw said they're still tweaking the camera. So, either the dude is wrong or they actually scrapped the tactical cam. Let's get ready for another batch of nerdraging threads.

Not having a tactical view is very disappointing. It is very useful in the first game.

I agree. The tactical overhead view is something I always used in DA:O and I'll definitely miss it if I play DA2. It's been a fact that the faster and more close-up that combat gets in games, the less interested I am in replaying them. I can see me still playing DA:O even with DA2 released, as a result.

What for ? Really,  how does it help in battle - I am serious and would really like to know it.

I guess it could be useful to get a better view of what's around your character; Situational awareness.

Seriously, though if the "TACTICAL CAMERA 2.0 !" is just the ability to zoom out, thats total BS. Its stuff like this that shows how they at least need to show the PC version to journalists instead of having to filter everything through a PR person.

The bigger change, however, is that the game will no longer support an overhead tactical view on any platform. This was an art and combat-design decision, the BioWare rep told me today.

Uh now im confused. Didnt the Devs continuously defend & say on this board that there would be a tactical view for the PC, but now this BW rep mention its just a wider zoom, sorta?.

PC game won't be made separately this time. All versions of the game are being made by BioWare's internal teams.

Not sure what to make of that..

Zooming out allows you to see more in the field of view, obviously. The more you see, the better you can react to what's happening around you.

Coming from someone who hasn't diligently followed every bit of DA2 news thus far, that entire article has me more worried than before. :(

Fare thee well, my beloved tactical view :crying:

It's a somewhat clumsily-worded way of saying that none of the three versions is a port.
PC, Xbox and PS3 are all being developed alongside each other.

The game not being designed around the use of a tactical camera is quite telling in just how dumbed down it has gotten. Needless to say, I am disappointed.

Because it has free-roam? I really don't know.
