Heck, only after discovering the apparent love people had for it on these forums did I load up DA:O again and see what I was missing.  I shrugged, wondered why this dinosaur of the 2D sprite era had such a devoted following, and went back to what I was doing.

And again -

PC elitism claims, ok.

Calling those who like something different dinosaurs (insulting their age as well as their tastes) quite alright apparently.

This is beginning to sicken me more than DA2. :(

EDIT - and now -

It's the whole cult of the isometric camera that bugs me.

I'm in a cult.  Nice. :?

Then it would essentially be an RTS

No, it would be a party based RPG. Think Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate and so on.

You seem to believe that a party based RPG has to be like Baldurs gate and such, whitch isnt true.

Of course.  It could be like Wizardry.

Agreed. I wouldn't mind a first person party based RPG at all.

Awesome, really?!

Here you go -

Hope you like text-based combat!  You do get your FP POV for movement and pics of the monster, yep-yep!
Can I interest you in some Devil's Whiskey gameplay, too, while we're at it?

Cause I'd rather play more Bard's Tale than what I've seen of DA2 so far.

Fair enough it certainly explains why there is more of an outcry this time around, but my point about it not meaning Bioware has been corrupted by EA and is only capable of making shooters and hack n slash games (or however the argument goes) just because one or two features doesn't follow the RPG rulebook stands.

I suppose for me a Bioware game is a Bioware game regardless of what machine it is optimised for. I just don't understand why for some people not having the complete isometric camera view is an issue on the level it is being presented here. The game is still tactical, the game is still recognisably a Bioware story centered RPG with party control and inventory amongst others staples.

Well you have to understand that to a lot of us older PC-centric gamers we feel like our hobby is literally dying.  That is very exaggerated of course, but it feels like that, it feels almost like we are under attack.  For years we had what we consider to be the best RPGs, tactical RPGs with real choice and consequence, 100s of hours of content and real expansions with dozens more.  Mod tools, free additions, long-term support and patching, complex gameplay that rewarded focus and interest rather than simple twitch gameplay.  For people like me RPGs since KotOR, roughly, have been slowly but surely killing off these benefits.  Simplified gameplay, short and over-priced DLC rather than expansions, lack of support, lack of tactics, lack of real choice and consequence, etc. etc..

Dragon Age, while not perfect, was a step by Bioware back toward the 90's era of RPGs.  They said it was a spiritual successor, it led on the PC and took advantage of the PC's technical superiorities, and it played like a tactical RPG, not a twitch game.  We even got a real expansion for it.  We were thrilled, even if it was not as good as BG2 and Planescape and all those it was still a great homage and a step in a lovely direction.

So combine those feeling of disappointment and of being under attack with the pleasure we felt at Dragon Age and then BOOM, add-in a seemingly streamlined and console-focused sequel to Dragon Age that seems to, on the surface, throw out a lot of that greatness.

It's kind of crushing.

That's the exaggerated and dramatic version of it, the truth varies from person to person.  I myself and more easy-going about it than many, but the core emotions are still there.  It's a shame when your hobby's best days are like 12 years past.

A lot of this.  I agree.

The implication to me seems to be that only "old people set in their ways" would like this.  It's not the only thing he says along these lines in this thread -
Don't forget being called a luddite -

Luddites who can't possibly imagine that a zoomed out third person view will give them an idea of the battle situation are beyond hope as it is.

And a cultist.

It's all pretty insulting, even if it's thinly veiled.

You must have some real self-esteem issues, stop taking every argument on the internet as a personal attack on your character.

I dont get this... All the previews seem to say "its a hack and slash"... So why do we need a isometric / tactical camera? So that we should feel like its still some kind of tactic left in the game?

The moment people notice that if you press 1 or 2 over and over again or "X" to just "button mash past the trash to get to the next story part" then its kinda pointless to add a camera that 90% of the people wont use right?

DAO had "some" tactics and requirement to think mainly because you could not just "button mash" sadly it looks like instead of adding a "responsive combat with tactics" they made it a "responsive hack and slash".

If this is directed at me, I suggest you dial down the hyperbole if you want me to take you seriously.

"Every argument on the internet", really?

The statements that Upsettingshorts was making were directed exactly at the kind of person/player I am.  So, yes, I take offense.

And "self-esteem issues" seems like a dig to me, too.  Shall I pronounce unscientific psychological evaluations of your character in return?

My quick lil' two cents, if you are sickened by a video game, maybe you should take a step back and breathe.

"Dinosaur" is a metaphor. If you don't like the metaphor, feel free to say why the metaphor isn't a good one to apply to the iso camera . But taking personal offense at having something you like characterized as a dinosaur?

Besides, everybody knows that kids like dinosaurs, not old people.

Luddite is a whole different matter and cultist is even worse, but you shouldn't let your emotional responses bleed over from insults into a statement that simply wasn't an insult.

Bah I just read Merin's signature, curses. *goes to get a beer*

Anyway, wasn't having a dig. Just trying to say "lighten up dude" 'cause adding emotion to an argument never helps.

To be fair, the bleeding over is probably more from other people in this thread (not Upsettingshorts, to set the record straight) explicitly saying that "older gamers should just leave."

I thought we had PM's about this, my friend.

You're doing it again. :(

Doing what? Unless you were being hyperbolic about your feelings and you aren't literally sickened by changes made to DA, that's a pretty unhealthy mindset. They *are* just games, after all.

With various previews of DA II, Bioware and EA have managed to give birth to Anti-Hype. Their determination to release NOTHING but irritating or depressing news is commendable. Their work is somehow relared to Cern's Anti-matter research I am sure.

Had I chosen to stay wrapped in blisfull ignorance, skipping all in game videos, gaming site previews and whatnots, I would have pre ordered the game by now.

One question, why were people on this forum including Mike Laidlaw lie to me when this question was duiscussed thousand times?

So you feel like he was insulting your tastes, and you, mr condescension himself gets offended? I highly doubt that, either that or you are thin skinned despite how you come off(and seemingly expect others to be thick skinned it appears).

Not sure why people were so happy with how DAO implemented iso though(or at least enough to think the effort they did was worth it).

Hey. Can anyone enlighten me as to why the writer said " the PC game won't be made separately this time". Aren't they developing this on the 3 platforms concurrently?

I am assuming he is meaning that this time they are making the game side by side, with the other versions.
