Bottom line is that this was still a preview of the console version.
This. Though it was at least more informative than usual.

I was hoping that the sequel would fix this. Instead BioWare went in the other direction.

How do you expect us to "think like a general" Mike when we can't see what going on? How can a spiritual successor to Baldurs Gate not have tactical view? So many questions; so much frustration....

And the confirmed lack of a tactical camera really sucks. I thought that was still up in the hair... this decision takes out much of the appeal for me. There are already so many third-person RPGs and third-person action games to choose from, while the tactical camera made DA: O unique on the market. I fail to see how you're supposed to 'think like a general' that way, too...

Quote "No overhead view? No sequencing commands? No partner inventory? Dumbed down dialogue? Forced to be one character only storywise? PC version sounding like the console version but with very minor tweaks?
No thanks. This is not the "spiritual successor to baldur's gate" that made me love DA1 so much. This is Mass Effect 2 with swords.
Just go out and admit it Bioware, you dont give a flying flip about the PC market. It will be easier on yourself if you were just honest. "

Frankly at this point I do not plan on pre ordering and will take a wait and see approach. It definitely looks like it's a console port. Good thing Deus Ex; Human Revolution is releasing the same exact day. Not only is the PC version getting it's own U.I. but they're also sticking more to the roots of the original than Dragonage 2 is when compared to DA: O.
Also one thing that disgusts me is that they're trying to bring in Fable fans. I've played the original Fable on the PC and though it's a quite good game, it is a button smasher.
A button smasher, a button smasher, a button smasher.
Shame on you Bioware, Shame on all of you for doing this. >.<

Because, I don't know - That's how party based RPGs are supposed to be played - It seems I am getting old

Well ... it is logical to assume most gamers are total nitwits, considering how well MW2 sells.
Bioware is making a profit based call to increase sales ... BIG surprise
Meanwhile, thousands of voices with > 100 IQ cried out in the darkness and lamented the fall of another franchise to the console.

It says the game isn't being designed around the tactical view. That pretty much means that it's being reduced to a mere gimmick. Not saying it was overly useful in Dragon Age: Origins to begin with but this is a very disheartening development and yet another step towards Dragon Effect.Malanek999 wrote...
This article doesn't say the tactical view has gone. Just that it has changed. We don't know how good it will be until we see it. IMO it is very important for controlling AOE effects. I'm willing to give Bioware the benefit of the doubt until we get to try it.

I...don't know what to think about all of this.
Almost every bit of news I hear about this game make me cringe
That was from a poster on Kotaku. I've actually noticed a lot of people with very similar responses whenever the game is previewed by the press. I can't say I don't feel the same way, almost everything I've heard about the game seems to be in direct opposition to what the original game was.

Yes, I was surprised too. But I suppose we can't do anything with the dialog problem anymore

Yes it does clearly say no tactical view.

The bigger change, however, is that the game will no longer support an overhead tactical view on any platform. This was an art and combat-design decision, the BioWare rep told me today.

You are not smarter or superior than anybody else. Please don't act like it. Nor are the console insults necessary.

Since it's a little unclear - you can still pull the camera back and then adjust the yaw, which would allow for a fairly-close-to top-down camera perspective. You aren't stuck with varying degrees of over-the-shoulder.
