They are putting a horrible console radial menu into the heart of the game

Radial is console only.

I'd like to beleive you, but everything I've seen says that the dialogue wheel is for PC's as well

He probably thought you meant the combat wheel.

The term "radial menu" typically references something different from the dialogue wheel. Hence the confusion.

The dialogue wheel will, I imagine, be a wheel.

The difference is that the other information I learned from the developers prior to the marketing for DAO was information I liked, whereas the shorter time between announcement and release for DA2 has allowed far less non-marketing information to be released.

I'd blame that less on the game itself and more on the dev cycle, though we're probably going to be getting more info soon enough like the Dev Diaries. They pretty much require to release one before January's Signature Edition cut-off date.

Though that's the first time I've seen someone take issue with the particular shape of the option.

Especially since we'll supposedly still be able to select options with the number keys (which I always do - they're right there handy just above WASD).

Oh, I thought he meant the Radial menu used for combat from Dragon Age: Origins (console).

As I said, I may be in a minority of one here.  I play with a mouse, using the keyboard if I have to, but I prefer just a mouse.  I'm not a big fan of WASD either.

Then what's the difference between using your mouse to point at options arranged in a circle at the bottom of the screen versus using your mouse to point at options arranged in a column at the bottom of the screen?

What Dave shows in that screenshot won't be in the PC version.  That's the console radial menu that takes the place of the PC quickbar.  The PC quickbar is returning in DA:2.

Well from what I've seen of ME that's not how it works. You have to literaly move your mouse around (I had to do it in a circle. Not sure about anyone else) to get each option. Good god was that irritating in ME.

Ah, so you don't like how the cursor "disappears" in effect. /shrug. Didn't bug me, but I was just wondering what the difference was for people.

I thought the blacked out letterbox effect of DA:O with the column of choices was irritating.  To each his own.

It is kinda funny from my perspective though. Most of the people complaining don't like what is being implicated for what they are where as me personally? I'm actually worried that they have made to many changes(animations/Dialog VO for main character/upgraded toolset/new dialog system/camera changes/equipment overhaul/class overhaul) at one time.

And are going to reduce the quality of it all because they are changing to much at once and won't have everything up to higher standards of quality.

I'm less concerned with the features themselves then how I'm a bit leery that they have bitten off more then they can chew. There enough technical problems that I had with the game that I'm a little worried the quality of the changes might take a hit.

I may not have a real gameplay "style" preference, but I would bet I'm one of the most picky people on these boards in terms of quality of the things implemented from game to game.

My mouse cursor is easiest to manage when it travels in straight lines.  I hated the NWN radial menu and cheered loudly when Obsidian dumped it in NWN2.  I found the dialogue wheel in ME so off-putting that I dropped the game very quickly.  If I have to struggle against the interface a game has no place in my leisure time.

Its the choices they made that annoy me. And incidently most of which are ME2 features.  Voiced protagonist with paraphrasing, lack of companion armor visual customization, limiting class weapon choices. etc etc.

This whole new mantra of streamlining sequels and gutting a majority of the deeper classic RPG Tropes if thats what the cool kids are calling them these days isn't impressive and isn't needed if they want to indeed play to each platform's strengths, and try and please as much as the fan base as possible. Now we learn that the tactical camera is pretty much gone as well. Where's the line and when does it stop? Why must the PC folks who liked the experience Origins offered, suffer and the console folks get everything under the sun?

Its not acceptable to merge the two series into one samey feeling game. I liked Origins for what it was, a tactical, deep, party RPG. DA2 doesn't quite appear to have the same amount of layers to it with all the changes that make me go "hey that sounds cool can't wait to play it."

I still don't understand how the few choices we've seen is streamlining the game. But I guess that's because I don't really see ME2 as streamlined either.
Didn't the devs say that they removed topdown camera because of textures? Or that the would be forced to work extra to get it to work?

But hey, different people have different taste. :) I still think that DA2 will be as tactical and deep as DA:O.

No I dislike moving my mouse around in a bloody circle. I feel ridculous. It is unnecessary. Thankfully the numbered options should alleviate that problem.

I personally prefered the letterbox, at least I didn't feel silly.

Moving the mouse in a circle is silly? I can't comprehend a particular mouse movement being silly. Yeah, not gonna be reaching common ground here.

I said I felt silly doing such not that it was silly. And yes its personal preference and I doubt we're going to reach common ground. I can't fantom why people would enjoy moving their mouse in a circular fashion just to pick a dialogue choice.

Not to mention annoying when I had to do it over and over to reach a certain dialogue option.

The only time moving the mouse around in a circle was silly was in Black and White and Arx Fatalis. blasted I bet I'm going to run into a few people who thought that implementation was a good idea...

Not to say your personal preferences are incorrect, just thought I'd point this out.  I remember wile playing ME on the PC that I'd just be able to move my move in the direction of my desired option(eg. I move my mouse idagonally up left, I select the upper left option).  That's just what I remember anyway, no radial motions.

I would try to do that but it would get halfway there. Gah. I"ll try it again. At least ME2 seemed to be more responsive at least. Thanks for the tip.

Edit: It worked! Thank you! :wizard:

Why would you have to move your mouse in a pattern to reach an area of the screen?

Yep this is what I did as well.
