Piecake, If I see more nonsense posts like the one above FedericoV's, you will get a temp ban. Put out the juvenile "resistance" torches. The best way to get an idea across is to be thoroughly articulate.

"The bigger change, however, is that the game will no longer support an overhead tactical view on any platform."
Damn, so it is true, and already determined.

Take a look earlier in the thread at the dev posts. They stated that there's no dedicated overhead view, BUT you can stillzoom out and yaw the camera upwards and view from a near-overhead. It's not quite the same, but it at least is somewhat similar.

as you said: it is not the same
I never "zoomed out just a bit", I either used full tactical view (for battles) or 3rd person

There's nothing wrong with saying that another game isn't as much fun for you as BG. But that's not a useful or interesting statement unless you can also articulate why.
Not wanting to touch this thread dominated by people I really care not to talk with anymore, but there is one small thing I think needs correcting here.
And though I'm sure someone will twist it into something annoying, here I go anyway.
I've never even finished Baldur's Gate. It is not a favorite game of my by any stretch of the imagination. So, to be clear, this wasn't some "hidden agenda" thing by me about BG being the best game ever. That's an argument you'll never see me make.
Back out - go back to discussing cheese and misunderstanding how analogies work.

It might be more accurate to say that so far, the information given to us about DA:2 gives out the feeling that it will be worse than DA:O.
Also, if you have to actually play/read/watch whatever to make an opinion, you'll be either pirating a lot or misspending a lot of money. There should be enough information to make an informed decision before making a purchase. Right now, based on what we know so far, I'm refraining from preordering. The game is losing too much of what made Origins a breath of fresh air amongst the sludge of gunmetal grey space marines that permeates the medium.

If my gut tells me not to pre-order then I wait for reviews and read forums to see what people are saying about a finished product. Gameplay footage gets me a little excited before release but I certainly don't form an opinion around hype. And the major reason I pre-order BioWare games is because they haven't let me down yet.....

Fair enough. I know I've preordered stuff based on a gut feeling that I ended up regretting buying, so I'm a bit more cautious now.

If the camera can't move freely (as it could in DAO), then no, it's not similar at all.Unknown Username wrote...

And Mike says the camera is always anchored to the currently controlled character. That's a change, and it's a big one.

I thought he said we were able to move it around the battlefield.

But can you detach the camera or are you stuck on one character? Can you freely rotate the camera all around?
Hey folks.
Thought I would slide in here to clarify this last query:
The camera is attached to your currently controlled character. It may be rotated freely.
Damn it.
I suppose you invoked the flux card, because that seems quite a 180 from your initial statement that the key to tactical play was freeing the camera from the character.

And there's my problem. The UI changes in particular are making it less accessible for me. I want to be immersed in the world and story the writers have created, I don't want to fight the UI to get to it. The dialogue wheel means I have to concentrate on the mechanic instead of the words and the lack of iso view means that I'll have to concentrate on getting the right views of the battlefield instead of zooming out and understanding everything at a glance.FedericoV wrote...
Most removed features are replaced with new features.
Bioware has choosen to invest in storytelling, immersion, graphical identity, action and overall accessibility for DA2.
This is my leisure time, no part of it should be hard work.

Well Erich the DA2 feature seems more a DEMO than a finished product....
There hasn't been official gameplay released yet, they are demoing the game and you say the game feels more like a demo?
What?

You can't get much more intuitive than the dialog wheel.
