No, when you zoomed all the way out to tactical view the camera was completely free. I think it was only for the PC version. But it's kind of a big deal. Kind of a really big deal.

Nope. I'm on the PC version right now and it's not.

um it is, but the camera setting can be changed, I guess you did

I never touched the settings, my camera is still fixed on my character.

This is probably a dumb question, but do you ever move your mouse to the edge of the screen?

Yes, it only brings the screen more to the left / right but the camera still remains locked on my character.

Are we maybe working with different definitions of "free movement" here?

Could be. What I'm thinking is the way you could look around the entire map / area in Icewind Dale / Baldur's Gate, unlocked from your party.

If it's still like that in DA2 then, that's good. It sounds like Mike is saying the camera will be fixed with your character at the center of the screen though, where edgescrolling causes the camera to rotate around said character rather than move straight in the desired direction.

Yeah, that's what I think too. I was just saying "No" to the completely free tactical camera.

Do you mean "no, I don't want a free tactical camera" or "no it is not a comptletely free camera"?

It is not completely detached, but the selected character does not always remain centered. You have a certain range of liberty to move it (it doesn't cover the whole scenario, but you can scroll a screen and a half of scenario).

I do exactly that all the time. There's a bit of a limit on how far away I can go, and if I select a character the camera will center on that person before letting me move around again. But I can move the camera around.

NIIIICE. I love the fact that they catered to the console gamers this time round, could not stand DAO's combat.

I know, those console gamers with inferior intellect, isn't it so great to be a PC gamer and therefore smarter than anyone else who dares enjoy games?

I'd love it if I were smart like you.

Continue with the PC elitism at your own risk.

Enjoying games (that's right, they are games, we are not talking about microsurgery) on one platform versus another does not mark you as being of superior intellect and/or taste.

If you want to continue to pretend that it does, you won't be doing it on these forums. I'm tired of this elitist garbage.

I respectfully have to point out you're out of line!

Sure, implying console players are stupid is not a very nice thing to do, but it seems to be just a way of expressing frustration, through personalization, over an issue that is undeniable and for which Bioware is as responsible as the next multi-platform game company: PC games are being dumbed-down and losing sophistication and innovative game design to accommodate for the console market, which sports younger and generally less inclined to brain use while gaming customers. Does it mean console users are dumber? No, it means they seek a different kind of experience, but the PC game market is suffering from it, older, more sophisticated players are getting frustrated over it and express their frustration in occasionally inappropriate ways. It's not PC elitism as you put it (and you're showing bias when you do so), but it's undeniable that PC gamers are, on average, more mature, more sophisticated, more demanding and more inclined to games that challenge their brains and not their reflexes.

I have to say you're doing a poor job as a moderator expressing yourself in the way you did and your biased attitude is as negative as the one you were "moderating".

..................What?

Your beginning sentence seems to give off the impression that you are bashing PC gamers via sarcasm, and then at the end you seem to imply that i'm a PC gamer?

I thought my post was pretty straight forward in giving the impression that i like the fact that DA2 will be catered to consoles, and that i myself am a console gamer.

This sentance is what makes you sound like an elitist.

I'm sorry if stating facts makes you feel I'm elitist. Elitism would be me stating that, because of that, PC gamers are superior or better. I didn't say that, I merely pointed out differences that are acknowledged by the market and design community. I could also state that console players have faster reflexes, excel at button-multi-tasking, or any number of other things, but since I'm sort of complaining about the "normalization" the PC game market has been suffering, it's normal that I stress the reasons why PC gamers are angry.

Anyway, for the record, I don't think PC gamers are superior, but I do think that PC games are superior and I regret it is going down the drain, by the hand of the very same companies that built that superiority. If that makes me elitist, so be it.

You're really not contributing anything to this thread other than adding "I'm not saying PCs are superior to console but I really am saying that without actually saying it." Also, your "attack" on a moderator (who, btw, is a developer) didn't earn you much respect, from either the console or PC gamers. Did you even read the OP or are you just trolling for the sake of trolling? Too many times this thread has been derailed and for once it was on a decent track.. talking about camera angles that the Kotaku review was looking at. Did you really have to come in here to get it off the rails again? Was it worth it?

Guys, Console gamers have different kind of smarts (fine tuned reflexes). I have to play the PC because my 2 left thumbs cannot hit the XOX^ combination in the right order or fast enough, where my hands are already trained to a keyboard (I can hit any number, letter, or F12 combination faster on a keyboard than any X or O on a little tiny vibrating controller). It would be perfect if I could have a vibrating keyboard. Whoever invented the quickbar and number combat system for PC games and DAO included, bless you for accommodating us slowpokes!

Does anyone else find it amusing how many times he repeats that the PC version will not be over-simplified? That pretty much seems to be the gist of the entire preview.

It is odd since its a console preview and not a pc one.
