Every single gameplay video thus far has looked pathetic. I find this a bit alarming.
I am inclined to agree. Even if they haven't actually, truly changed the combat style or whatever else they are spewing... It looks like Mass Effect now. Over-The-Shoulder style in the videos, the lack of a silent PC, the grave amount of enemies flooding your screen, the shaky follow camera style, the faces, the focus on "badassery."
It looks like garbage, truth be told. I really signed up for Mass Effect news. After I saw the video on Kotaku, it was the last straw. I am really not in any way inclined to buy Dragon Effect 2. It looks terrible.
They completely butchered the series by going this route. Shame. One of the only games these days I could connect with on an RPG scale. I guess I will wait out for more fantastic mods, they are worth it.

Really? I've played a lot of games with short production times that are amazing, loads of them that have long production times that sucked.
PRODUCTION TIME =/= QUALITY.

And how often do you come across that? This isn't about what can be done. It's about the fact that a majority of the time it is common knowledge that a longer production time can make a great game, while a shorter one tends to make horrible games.

Pretty commonly when most of the work is done. Engine, lore, ect.

I heard an ad for Gran Turismo 5 on the radio today and it went something like "Hi, I'm God. I made the Earth in 7 days and its a pretty awesome place. After 5 years in development, imagine how awesome Gran Turismo 5 is going to be."
My point? Hilarious ad.

At no point in DAO did I feel my tone was misrepresented by the game. At no point was the NPC's reaction such that they must have been responding to a tone I didn't intend.AlanC9 wrote...
Tone exists at some points. DAO characters respond to implied tone occasionally.
I've gone through the game many times. I've selected exactly the same line with vastly different intended tones, and the game worked every time.
That the NPC attempts to measure the tone is not evidence that the tone exists. But I'll agree that tone doesn't exist in the game world for very many PC lines. A lot of PC responses have no impact on NPC responses whatsoever, and so the player can make up whatever tone he likes and still be consistent with the game world.
I guess we could say that tone doesn't exist until an NPC measures it.

Indeed, the kotaku article is a bit funny really, first he goes like "don't worry" and then he goes on to confirm every long time fan's fears... It really did turn into Dragon Effect. /sadpanda
Guess I won't be preordering this one and unless it gets raving fan reviews (review sites are about as reliable as the national railways here, not that fanboys are much better, the overal tenure on forums after a release generally is though) I probably won't be buying at all.

However, I don't mind the Mass Effect-ization (Mass Affectation?) of it all.
Yeah, I'd prefer to play an elf, especially in this setting (and most especially if the racial concept art we saw early on is accurate), but I accept it as a reasonable sacrifice in order to have a fully voiced player character.
Yeah, I'd prefer to not be stuck with such a cheesy name as Hawke, but see above.
That's all I've got as far as upsides, but I'm optimistic, because I remember when I thought I'd have no interest in Mass Effect....

The announcement date isn't a good indication of when development started, DA2 was announced earlier this year, but we know they started development as soon as DA:O was finished.Dave of Canada wrote...

Also, The Elder Scolls V is being worked on to the point that we know they're using a modified version of the same engine that was used in Oblilvion, Fallout3 and New Vegas, and that they're about to start doing the voice work for it, but there has been no announcements about it. In fact the CEO even said that when they do finally announce something about it, there will be a very short gap between the announcement and release.

Can we please stop using "long time fan" as some sort of buzzword? It's extremely unproductive.

I don't have really anything to input into this thread. I was just passing through the forums and I noticed Dave's avatar.
Thank you Dave of Canada for a good laugh.
