If its handled well, then great, personally smashing someone with a biotic charge in a multiplayer setting sounds like fun.

You've just reminded me of all the crazy times me and my mates had in both Battlefront 1 and 2. If Bioware is really making a game like that, I'm in!Sharuko wrote...
It would be awesome. class based shooter where you can select any race in the Mass Effect Universe. And maps would be like they are in Star Wars Battlefront which was a super fun game.
I could see it world.

That is what I am hoping for.

I fully expect it to be a third-person shooter. Bioware has crafted the mechanics in ME2 to be virtually seamless, especially with the button mapping on the consoles. This carries over into multiplayer quite nicely. Essentially, limit your weapons to two so then only one button is required to switch weapons instead of a radial pause menu. In addition, instead of the 4+ powers Shepard is capable of having, I imagine that the powers would be crunched down to 2-3. Probably two active and one passive power with a leveling system a hybrid of the RPG leveling of the main game and a "perk" system of Call of Duty or Bad Company.
Again, this is all speculation, but if *I* were to tie in multiplayer to the series, the aforementioned seems the most true-to-Mass-Effect way to do it.

Soldiers get better guns than the Sentinel... Why give them the Tech Armor? That's the only reason I picked a Sentinel for insanity!
I assume thats directed at my previous comment. I didn't intend for soldiers to steal tech armor, but, speaking strictly from a multiplayer balancing perspective, having access to biotics, tech, and the highest defense of the gamewould make Sentinels too much of a powerhouse in a PvP environment.
Unless it's nerfed, then maybe.

IF they can pull off a fairly original FPS game I'm all in for it. Hell they had me sold the second they mentioned it, but for the love of all that is holy in gaming. Please, please, please, please! No shooting through walls. I refuse to play games with that "feature".

Behold: BioWare selling themselves out. Had to happen sooner later, though some might argue it happened already.
This is pretty shameless. A blatant cash grab from the still lactating udder of the shooter multiplayer cash cow. I don't play Mass Effect for multiplayer, hell, I don't even play it so much for the action. I'm here to get my goddamn story on, not play with people over the internet who like nothing to more than to call each other racial slurs.
This is a bad move by BioWare. Granted I can't hold it against them since the rumor is that EA is making almost all games have a multiplayer element to them. But really, hasn't the game market had enough of sci-fi space marine shooters with multiplayer? Oh, but it'll most likely be class based! Yes, and Valve does it better than anyone else.
You know BioWare, I hold you in the esteem as I do Valve in terms of quality and innovation, but after this....lost a lot of respect for you. After shameless pandering you did for slobering fans in ME2(Garrus and Tali romances I'm looking at you), I figured that's as bad as it'd probably get. Oh my no, it got better.
I'll still play and buy DA2 and ME3, but don't you ever expect me to play a ME multiplayer. Let's just hope this time Kotaku's reliability isn't so reliable this time.
A single player campaign that would deal with either the occupation of Shanxi or the Skyllian Blitz? A prequal like that would've been excellent. But this? No. If this ends up being true, I can't in good concience get behind it.
BioWare you are known for telling stories, griping characters, and social dynamics that you can't find in other games. There are few other devs that pull off 'interactive story-telling' like you have with your games. This does not fit with your modis operandi.
Say that I'm over-reacting and maybe I, I'll admit it, but this just something that I can't see being a smart move.

If there was yet another multi-player shooter, I would want it to be a 3rd person shooter done by EA with the Mass Effect universe. The move makes sense to me...as long as it's done well.
But I do share the same concerns of many of you here:
- it should not just be Battlefield: Mass Effect edition, it should have its own gameplay style
- it should be completely separate from Shepherd's storyline
- otherwise it'll just spoil Mass Effect for the rest of us (kind of like with the Halo spin-offs)
My wishlist is to have it retain ME2's 3rd person style, but the large-scale battles like Battlefield, covering some sort of minor storyline like the Alliance Privateer initiative Jacob Taylor mentioned. Just throwing it out here to see if all my hopes are dashed.

As long as ME3 is in the same style as ME1 and 2, meaning Single player, somewhat open ended, and an actual RPG, it is fine. If this is just a spinoff it is ok.
I think ME3 will be a Single Player RPG because of the all of the decisions that have been made in ME1 and 2, that will have an effect on ME3.

Totally agree. Plus, all this talks about spin-off when ME3 isn't even announced and rather many people still waiting for DLC for ME2 is annoying and distracting.

Nonsense. Mass Effect 3 was announced the same time they announced Mass Effect 1. You can't have a trilogy without a second or third game.
Anyway, if true, then this will be great news. I'll take all the Mass Effect that EA and Bioware can throw at me.
It's also a really smart move for the longterm viability of the franchise.

Another thing to consider is that this might be an RTS game, or that perhaps it's not even a Mass Effect game (though the rifle and Vostok thing put Mass Effect highly in favor)

I hope its not a third person shooter. TPS multiplayer is really terrible.
No. Socom 2 is one of the best online games I've ever played.
