Marjolaine didn't betray Leliana the moment Leliana trusted her. They spent years together. Marjolaine turned on Leliana when Leliana found incriminating evidence, and for justifiable (if paranoid) reasons.

Those reasons being 'she knows too much'. As she says, "In truth, you have knowledge that you can use against me. For my own safety I cannot let you be". There's no trust here. Leliana wasn't threatening to turn her in, she was concerned for the safety of her mentor and lover in case she was caught. But hey, best have her framed and tortured just in case.

On another note, I can't say I've ever heard any past teachers threaten to destroy their students. Maybe that's the problem with English schools these days.

Marjolene also believe Leliana to be nearly identical to herself... an idea of which Leliana is all to uncomfortable with. Leliana might have been devoted and emotional at the moment... but later? Can we say that Marjolene wasn't once the same as Leliana, and saw in herself what Leliana might have been on the path towards becoming?

Marjolene was paranoid. Indisputable. But baselessly, irrationally?

Nope. Marjolaine is irritating. leliana is weird, but can be endearingly weird and quirky. I've seen nothing of Marjolaine that would be endearing or interesting, and her voice gets on my nerves.

Of course you've seen nothing. You never had a chance to. You also never saw anything in Zevran before you make the choice to kill the man who just tried to kill you or let him join you, and about the only things you can see in interrogating him are flattery and a naked attempt to stay alive himself.

The accent alone would make me want to kill her.

Thats after like a minute.

After 40 hours of listening to her imitate PePe Le Pew, I would go postal.

Then you could side with Leliana, who is infinitely grateful for your trust, or with Marjolene on the basis better the devil you can see as one than the devil who hides... and then, for the rest of the game, Marjolene applies her bard skills and an even more skilled tongue to get her way into the good graces of all the party, and even spins a sympathetic tale that would make so many players feel all conflicted.

Though yeah I would find it interesting to be able to hear Marjolaines side of the story (Like Loghain did.) I just don't think I could stand to kill off Leliana after she trusted you so much.

I do think Marjolaine would make for an interesting background, and would better explain the realtionship between Marjoliane and Leliana. (as Leliana describes her she seems like she was quite a normal person outside of bard life.) Also it adds another pure evil character in the party which there isn't many of already.

With that said I do think Marjolaine deep down loved Leliana. If you think about it Marjolaine could easily best Leliana in a fight, but everytime Marjolaine sent others to kill her, and everytime they confronted Marjolaine just let her go. She obliviousley couldn't stand to kill Leliana single handedly.

Zevran pulls it off with style. I knew nothing of Zevran, but that brief introduction was enough to pique my interest, and thus, make me want to recruit him and know him more.

Leliana's accounts of Marjolaine aside, the brief encounter with Marjolaine does nothing of the sort. I would find her continued companionship about as entertaining and interesting as I would the companionship of Isolde, Harrowmont, Eamon, Cammen, Zathrien, or Kolgrim. Which is to say...no.

There are other NPCs in the game that I would find much more interesting as companionst: Cauthrien, Isabella, Teagan, Jowan, Cullen, Gorim, Bhelen, Bryant, Kardol, Lady of the Forest, ect.

Hell, even Uldred, Ruck, Hespith, and Branka would be more interesting to recruit than Marjolaine.

ummm.... yeah Leliana did know Marjolaine outside of being a bard. Or else how would Marjolaine have time to train Leliana when they weren't busy trying to kill somebody.

I remember...[/i]
Marjolaine commanded fear, respect, and a high price. She was the Orlesian aristocracy's answer when the next step in a rivalry was to end it. And she was everything I wanted to be. She never spoke of herself, never gave hints of who she was away from the game, but she always seemed to know how to captivate us. She was a mentor, not a leader. She suggested, and others grew wealthy in her shadow.
At the time I only casually noted that Marjolaine's satchel held just the bare essentials for travel. It was barren of anything even remotely sentimental.

marjolaine is 100% bard

You obiviousley aren't understanding what im talking about.Image IPB.............

This has nothing to do with her past, but what Leliana knew about her likes and dislikes (such as music and sweets.) And her personality and such. We already know that Leliana knew her as a lover, and described her as a joy to be around.

And when I said outside of bard life i meant like in LS when they're inside Marjolaines house..... or in other words their off hours. Its impossible to spend years around a person like Marjolaine and know nothing about them.

And in game we already know Leliana knew quite a few things about Marjolaine.

marjolaine is good at becoming what people desire, and Lel needed a constant companion. that's what intrigues me about marjolaine, her ability to become what someone desires. i think that chantry priest was feeling some guilt about this.
