Great December cover art by Sam Spratt

Yes, it reminds me of the TST cover, too, though I didn't think it makes him look younger. I love it. Awesome illustration.leonia42 wrote...
That picture makes him look a lot younger than he was in-game (but sort of reminds me of The Stolen Throne cover art). Definitely one of the more memorable "villains" in recent years. I wish more folks would read the novels though, it's hard to not appreciate his character after knowing the events that shaped him.

Novels? I love reading! But there are novels? Where?

There are two companion novels by David Gaider, both prequels. The Stolen Throne is about the rebellion against Orlais and The Calling is about a Grey Warden expedition, including a young Duncan. They're great, highly recommended.

That's the thing about Dragon Age. Everything about it is consistantly high quality but no one element snaps out at me and says "you'll remember me forever" like an HK-47 or a Minsc.
Alistair has gotten some recognition, too. He couldn't recall where, but my husband said he saw him on a list of most popular video game characters.Maria13 wrote...
What about Alistair?
I know, I know at 47 I'm a terrible fangirl, but he has got to women gamers like no other. Blessed Dehlia has even created a mod so we can marry him... When has that happened with a game character in the West?
His is the charm that's launched a thousand fics!
Including mine...
Oh ok! Well, welcome! I didn't mean to sound snarky.Phoenix_Jackson wrote...

Lol thanks! If there are more, please recommend. The most recent books I read were O'Henry. I'm new to the world of Dragon Age.
He has some good dialogue if you spare him. Otherwise, it is hard to get to know the character well without reading the novels and especially TST. The Game Informer article mentions TST so they are taking into account more than just game stuff.Maria13 wrote...
Well, at least Ali has some very memorable things to say... More so than Loggy, of him I can really only recall the pigtails speech.
This is a no-spoiler forum so I won't go into detail, but that's exaggerating. He pretty nearly does pull it all off and it's tough to beat him unless you get a certain NPC in your corner. Anyway, the article is talking about his complexity, and his failings are part of that.casedawgz wrote...
Loghain had depth of character, but he was an entirely ineffectual villain. His villainy career after Ostagar is basically just one blunder after another, culminating in utter failure.

Antagonist works well, I think.leonia42 wrote...
I'm not sure the word "villain" really suits him, honestly, but can't think of a better adjective. Well, maybe tragic hero works.
