Wanna make either a dwarf commoner or an elf/dalish rogue any suggestions how to go about it?

I suggest taking a look at the masses of threads around here about this, also the sticky about character builds. I would either:

1. Use a cunning build and bring buffs. This makes gets the biggest bonus out of Assassin. OR

2. Use a dex build with 22 cunning for stealth. With Dueling active, you will be very hard to hit.

I suggest getting STR to 20 quickly, so to take advantage of the best light armors available early in the game, esp if you use DLC. Then if you want to wear heavier armors, wield larger weapons, and even bear a shield, I recommend taking it up to 38 along the way. This also lets you skip Lethality.

Cunning 22 is needed for Stealth, and 30 for Deft Hands (4) to open locks & traps. If you prefer to use Cunning higher than this, Lethality is recommended.

DEX should go to 36 to cover all Archer and DW talents.

Willpower to 20-30 for Stamina.

Magic and CON left at base.

If you wish to become an Archer/DW hybrid, I recommend the top line of Archer skills, top line DW, plus Momentum and Riposte at least. I also like Deft Hands(4), Stealth(4), Dirty Fighting line (3), and Duelist (3-4). I was not keen on the Assassin talents, but these can be taken by substitution of Deft Hands, letting someone else remove traps.

I mostly agree with the above.

If you have some of the prime items from the DLC then you want to get your "equipment modified STR" to 20 as quickly as possible. This will let you wear the elite goodies you have from the DLC just fine.

Leave CON & MAGIC at base ... I wouldn't touch them. You won't need them either :)

I would likely get DEX high enough to take any skills/talents you want to use. 36 or so points is probably enough.

EDIT:  For Willpower you won't need it for casual gaming and if you don't get Momentum you could leave it at base.  However Moementum is a beast of a skill so WP at 20+ would be fine.

As for Cunning I'd probably max it out with leftover points. The only time I wouldn't is if you want to get hit a little less then I'd pump some additional points into Dex.

Note: The above should be fine for casual play. Solo Nightmare or similar may dictate builds that are better adapted to that difficulty level & situation.

No offense, but you don't need 20 willpower for Momentum at all, you just need a bit of stamina regen. You'll get plenty from items. If you want more than base willpower, that's fine, but you don't need it for Momentum.

If you don't have Momentum, I really, REALLY hope you are an archer or some type of crazy sword and shield or 2h rogue :)

Dual Daggers + Momentum + Assassin Talents + High Cun + Poisons = Cuisinart. I almost never need any other active talent. I have Dirty Fighting for the stun, Riposte for the same, and paralyze runes with Coup de Grace. Things fall fast. Very fast.

You don't really need anything else. Punisher has a knockdown effect, but it's based on strength from what I can remember so it isn't so useful in general for dex/cun rogues. I mention it here because mages have low physical resistance and so I use it on them.

Nope .. I just opted to pick up "rogue" skills & talents before the vanilla combat skills & talents.  It was a RP choice and not an effectiveness oriented choice.  As for Momentum you don't really need it as a DEX/CUN rogue ... it just makes the inevitable victory occur faster.

Fair enough, and no you hardly "need" anything. I would never have a dual-wielder without Momentum, but nobody says you have to pick it as the very first thing. Rogues have a lot of things to worry about in the early game and you are really starved for points for a while.

If you have the Warden's Keep DLC make sure you get the Starfang Longsword and stack it with 3x Grandmaster +5 fire/cold/lightning damage runes, a Paralysis rune on your off-hand dagger and you will be a certified darkspawn murderer.

Starfang is a great longsword. Blightblood is also great and looks downright evil. The Veshialle is my favorite full-sized one-hander though.

I prefer dual daggers for my rogues. The Rose's Thorn is pretty much my dream weapon, and there are many great offhand daggers to choose from. You can even get The Edge from the very beginning.

Q: What DW weapons in DAO combine for the best Stamina & Health regeneration?

Duncan's Sword and Dumat's Spine can give you +3.5 stamina regeneration.

The Roses Thorn and Voice of Velvet can give you +2.0 health regeneration.

Edit: Before Awakening, Duncan's Sword and Maric's Blade give +2.75 stamina regen while Maric's Blade and the Rose's Thorn give +1.75 health regen.
