You could see the influences in Mass Effect 2 that they were gearing up to appeal less to rpg fans and more to shooter fans. At the time I predicted we'd see multiplayer in ME3. Pretty close guess, since this will be a precursor to ME3.

So rpg fans be afraid, whatever we see Mass Effect become next there's no doubt we'll see some implementation in the next game making it less rpg and even more shooter, they want a slice of that cake that CoD and Battlefield gets.

How do you know this new game won't have more "RPG elements" than 2 did

They made it pretty clear in ME2 that they wanted as much market popularity between genres as possible, you really think they will risk alienating the shooter fans who played ME2 to put more rpg elements back in?

I very much doubt it.

CoD Black Ops has more RPG mechanics than ME2 does.

This is what customization will look like in the next game. In CoD you can customize with perks, look and equipment. The stats system from ME2 will probably look like perks so its going to be stream-lined even more.

Wild accusations and pointless guesswork huh? maybe you should just open your eyes and look at the current market trends in rpgs and the redesign in ME2 to see where they want the series to head.

Fallout without the stats and a vastly reduced world with less equipment. If you think that's awesome then enjoy the next game and ME3.

Oh, if you guarantee it, I guess it would be flat out delusional to think otherwise.

So, what exactly does the guarantee entail? If you fail to fulfill your guarantee, what do we get?

Stats!

All I need is stats!

I enjoyed playing ME 1 until I was fully leveled in Accuracy before I could kill anything with ease.  Then starting my real playthroughs on NG+ I wanted to do the exact same thing in ME 2. Not.

Plus the guns work well in ME 2, fantastic.  1 ups those lousy guns you get in Gears of War which make no sense at all.

Plus Face it, ME 1 is somewhat of a GRAW clone, ME 2 is somewhat of a Gears clone.  Gears > Graw

If they make an ME shooter then they won't have to make ME3 one as well. Right?

I can guarantee it because it's obvious. You all have the ME2 icons so I'm guessing you atleast played the game for a couple minutes.

ME2 was not a redesign prompted by Bioware's desire to make the Mass Effect games varied, they want to appeal to the shooter market that didn't pick up their game first time around. People daunted by all the stats and figures they need to customize were probably put off but picked it up easily in ME2. They don't want Mass Effect to be an rpg first and foremost before a shooter, they want it to be a shooter before rpg.

Just remember I called it, if we see more stream-lining and increased linearity feel free to come back to this post and apologize to me.

This game is not going to be Mass Effect 3 or be during the events of said game because it will ruin the story for Mass Effect 3. This will either be a prequel about the First Contact War(doubt it) or a different story about probably human spec ops during Mass Effect 2 and bridging the gap to Mass Effect 3. It will probably be a FPS(maybe TPS) with multiplayer and singleplayer with the singleplayer save also getting imported into Mass Effect 3.

This is something they are doing to get a larger following for Mass Effect 3 and will not effect Mass Effect 3 by making less of an RPG, if anything Mass Effect 3 will be more of an RPG because we all complained about Mass Effect 2's RPG elements.

I would agree with you if I actually believed that those "RPG elements" were a good replacement for what we have in "shooter Games". I do not think so. The Major difference we have in ME 2 from ME 1 is the lack of putting stats into Accuracy and Armor.

So what, the weapons have feel now, they feel like I can kill something with them instead of just shooting jello all over the place.

Substituing RPG over the base elements of what makes a Shooter is a poor substitute. The ancillary stuff around it can be where the RPG can be placed.

Didn't say it was going to be Mass Effect 3 or during the events. I said what we see in the next game will heavily influence what ME3 will be, so it will be more shooter than rpg.

Ok Onyx then why are you playing Mass Effect? because in the beginning that's what it was, an rpg that was also a shooter, which is swiftly becoming just a shooter with a story mode.

They are good replacements because it puts the player in control if I want to make a Sniper I can boost several stats to suit my gameplay, why would I want to just select a "Sniper perk" to do that for me? it means giving us less choice.

I hope you can pick your character in the multiplayer like in Gears and Uncharted.

I'd pick Saren and Zaeed da mofo.

Mass Effect 3 could play like f*cking solitaire for all I care so long as it and has the strong story and characters that made me like the series in the first place. Stats or no stats, guns or no guns, I'm here to save the galaxy alongside my team of epic badasses.

Your pessimism, it does nothing!

Whens all is said and done, if a bunch of numbers do not add the enjoyability of a game then why have them in the first place? ME2 is highly praised by both professional and fan reviewers for having superior gameplay, and it is only normal that gameplay receive more attention that adding a hidden superfluous numbering system in the final product.

And besides, I didn't play ME/ME2 for the traditional definition of rpg mechanics - I played them for their excellent story. As long as the story is solid I'm a happy-camper.

Except we are not the ones making the design decisions, we didn't like the Mako so they changed it, we didn't like the planetary mining so I'm guessing that will go to, but I seriously doubt Bioware will be letting us dictate the gameplay. If we had been dictating it Mass Effect wouldn't have changed at all since people loved the first, whether or not you like or dislike ME2 gameplay is irrelevant because at the time Mass Effect came out people were looking forward to the game being exactly the same.

Sorry I have to disagree there, I'd rather play a game then watch a movie which is what you seem to be describing.
