Strange, I find the majority of the accents french or otherwise quite plausible, ok Isolde was a bit over the top but I'm fairly sure I have heard french people talking english with that sort of overemphasis.

On the level of language ability Isolde has, you can’t have that sort of accent - Only if you have never heard English in your life and learned all the rules and grammar from the books.
And this is obviously not the case here.
Ok, maybe I am exaggerating a little, but she has a lot of language-exposure – Both her son and her husband speak Fereldan (English). It is still very over the top and more of a “we think that is how the French speak” Hollywood accent thingy.

They choose to use real-world accents - Therefore they should be careful or at least consistent with them.

As I've already mentioned - Level of Language ability - You can speak like that, but you will have grammar problems and somewhat different, I do not know how to put it, style. If you live among English speakers for a couple of years, you can't speak like that - As I said before her husbund and her son are NS, and  she has been living in Ferelden for more then 10 years.

And I agree with Russalka they are not speaking with a fake French accent because they are not from or in France they speaking with Orlesian accents, which only resemble French accents.



If Dragonage was based on this Earth in medieval times then the complaint would be more justified.

The problem is that the accents are inconsistent across the characters, not that they are not French enough.

Who is to say she has not spoken Orlesian with her husband? Perhaps she barely communicates with anyone? Her son has to be all Fereldan though, so she would only talk in Fereldan to him, no one would trust an arl with an Orlesian accent.

EDIT: And the inconsistency is not a problem if they are from different parts of the world.

That would be pretty big differences we do not find in Fereldan language - I doubt that the same language will differs in accents so much - Orlais may have a bunch of local languages, but there is nothing in the lore to support that.

Ferelden is small. Orlais in an empire. I will not argue why or how the arlessa may or may not have spoken whatever in her life, because we know so little. She had her accent, that is constant.

My point is that everything is so relative in terms of real life vs a fantasy world, we not knowing much about the whole world, that this argument is moot. Yes, the actress might not have done a perfect job, but maybe that works for this world?

You know it's a pretty interesting question, I wonder how would a Breton (non French-Breton bilingual) version of English sound, But alas, I doubt that  the developers would go that far…

I can vouch for Lelliana sounding like a French lady talking in English.
I lived with a French girl called Annick while at college and she sounded just like Lelliana.
She even died her hair the same colour with henna.
I'm always reminded of her when Leliana starts putting the world to rights, happy days

My experience is that, whether the accent is genuine or not, there will be people who think it's fake/annoying/whatever. I don't know how many people appeared to declare our "fake" English accents were outlandish, despite the fact we recorded in the UK extensively.



So... whatever.

so in my opinion you shouldn't even bother with accents when youi pick voice actors, in dubbed releases in europe all those voices are gone anyway, and even I who plays the games with english dub/sub only recognizes "extreme british", scottish, and irish anyway

No offense, but being French I found the Orlesian accents funny, you could tell those weren't their real accents.  I know its a resource issue but anyone feel the same about accents?

Just because you feel they are fake does not make it so.

If you can't recognise them,  it doesn't  mean no one can. - And, yes most of my friends are non NS who play in English and yes we all would hate to see it thrown away.
