Discuss the proper way to hug a person, time how hard and when its socially acceptable to end a hug early.

Elven and i want ANSWERS! :police:

To start us off, if some one smells, do you stay with it? or pull out? :?

Discuss the proper way to hug a person,

Firstly you have to mean it.
Bear hugs are acceptable no matter the situation.
If you haven't bathed in a few days a hand shake or even a nod of appreciation will suffice.

I am really a bad hugger. Last time a Grizzly bear died.

Ok well, seriously speaking friends tell me that hugging me is like hugging something big and soft and warm, and is generally a nice feeling (my size it appears makes me more of a huggable object :P )

Funny thing this is national creep someone out day.....

Anyhow I wrap my arms around the person and stick by butt out or if it's a girl press my body tight up against her body.

I don't initiate hugs ever unless it's my family. If someone hugs me then I go with the flow and it's usually a second or two medium strength embrace with maybe a little pat on the back.

... or start brawling. Whatever you like better :P

Sure not the nicest response to a hug which is given with so much affection, but still.

The word is Etiquette. Sorry. It had to be said. I only bring it up because I couldn't actually tell what the thread was about from the title.

If you are a man, you must never show your feelings, and so you must never hug someone unless it's your old comrade at whose side you've fought since the beginning of a war and there's plenty of vodka to go around. :police:

People always want hugs....but I get very uncomfortable giving them.

So Rule #1 for people should always be to know: NOT EVERYONE WANTS A HUG.

I only give hugs to good friends and family, partially because I am a somewhat enthusiastic and violent hugger. I avoid hugs from strangers or acquaintances due the possibility of pickpocketing.

Only hugs among friends, opposite gender. But in some regions/cities its more favorable than a handshake when you meet friends' friends.
I like the idea and the feeling although I always feel awkward in such situations (not with closest friends mind you).

What about kisses on the cheeks?

Great, but this northern Europe people and Americans don't understand it!
I hate hugging :? whatever ... strong Handshake is good enough, but I prefer to bow down like Chinese and Japanese salute & farewell

For my brothers in arms, the guys that I have fought in the trenches with, they deserve a manly hug.

Honestly it depends on the person and the situation, and how comfortable one is with their sexuality. I'm a straight male but I have no problem hugging another guy if it is someone I know, a friend, and the moment calls for it or is initiated by said guy.

For women its the same for me: I would have to be close to them, or at least a mutual friend, and they would almost always have to initiate because I'm never one to impose.

So yeah, my main answer is that it depends how comfortable each person is with eachother on hugging, and how much trust is there to begin with.
