No changes to companion outfits during the 10 year span of DA2, isn't that a bit wierd?

At the end of the game you have tons of money & influence, if you can't get a tailor to stitch you up some clothes then something is broke. I won't even bring up the fact that none of them are wearing armor to begin with

It's understandable in a couple of cases; Varric is recounting the story to Cassandra so those two are outside the 10-year timeline for obvious reasons.
If it affects all companions, and (for example) Bethany is still wearing the same identical robe from the beginning of the 10 year time span to the very end, well there's only one response to that .. eww.

And Varric's excuse? :P

Got me there. Is it possible to change chest-hair? .. I wonder if he has a wardrobe full of 'em.

Lol, it's very funny to see the Devs' comments on threads asking about the companion outfits... really a thread of those is posted and the Devs always start with the sarcastic comments, it's like they can't find any reasons to explain their decision.

They did it just to spite people, clearly.

Superman's been wearing the same set of blue tights for more than 60 years now.

Given how no one in his world noticeably aged during that timespan though, they may be suffering from acute case of Groundhog Day.

Speaking of which, do DA2 characters visibly age during their 10 year history?

What, you think they posted ideas on a corkboard and threw darts to pick? I've yet to see a decision they don't explain. They just don't repeat themselves endlessly because they could never do anything else.

Well Peter Parker has been in college a very long time...

& I have never heard a straight answer from anyone about how their way is superior to the old way or to any other way.

The characters in the Simpsons always wear the same outfits too.

You have to make exceptions for the media they are in, this isn't real life folks.

It's funny that the BG fans complain about this when the characters in BG always had the same colourful tights on no matter what was equipped.

Well you could change the colours.

Reason for what? The companion outfit changes? Listen to the podcast.

Yes but the previous DA didn't have this problem.
Characters could change their outfits.

@Saibh, can't be bothered. Is it that "Wanted a hip unique look for each character" excuse?

Mary Kirby is a writer. This particular decision probably had little to do with her. ;)

More or less. The companions were recognized as the feature that probably resonated the strongest with the players, and they wanted to spice them even further in the new game... decided that would do it.

I still fail to see how clothes somehow give personality.

...Probably because I wore uniform until I was in high school.

They want the companions to feel more unique, last I've heard that was the explanation, I'm unique but I don't wear the same clothes for 10 years, and listening to the podcast, David said that on the "rare" occasion some of the companions may change/upgrade the visual aspect of the outfit and he said specifically it'll stay more or less the same as the base outfit.

I really love some of the changes to DA2, but uniqueness doesn't cut it this time.

<_< I know that, I just want the benefit of illusion, changing the colors would be sufficient in that case, gives us the illusion it's a different outfit even it it's actually the same.

Besides companions in Origins were  unique enough, diverse personalities, faiths and beliefs are what makes anyone unique not just the kind of clothing they wear.

Would Jack from ME2 still be Jack if she wore normal armor?
Would Thane?
Would... ect.

In addition to all of this, these unique models give way for unique animations.

It doesn't give personality, it expresses personality. And the point of a uniform is to encourage and express uniformity. Uniforms, especially military dress, are a great example of how people use clothing to express something.

It also adds to a character's uniqueness because *characters aren't people.* Any personality we perceive is artifice.

Take Darth Vader. His clothing was distinctive, memorable, and gave a strong first impression. The Imperial March is distinctive, memorable, and gives us a strong first impression.

If you gave Vader a regular officer's uniform and changed the music to something like this. You've changed the character because you've changed the perception of the character.

Uh...yes yes they would.

Unless you're telling me Ashley, Kaidan, Wrex, and Garrus have no personalities.

But did you know he had a Super Mullet?

Obviously the only way to save face now is to give Varric a Super Mullet.

Noooooooo! You've traumatized meeeeeeee!
