Bioware don't just port ME2 to PS3 but also redesigning engine and graphics to make it "better then on xbox". Im not a game developer, but surely such work requires more time and effort. Thus odds that they will deliver ME3 before ME2 are slim (but I still hope for it), plus it will make bad impact on ME2 PS3 sales.
It can also be a spin off of ME, but then comes a logical question why would they confuse everyone and release new game before finishing the old one? So chances are low again
I as many of you hope that unannounced game is ME3, but the chances are VERY low in my opinion, and any such announcement is irrational.

Acording to this it will either be a really big DLC, or DLC so large it will be released as an expansion to ME2. If it is the latter I hope it will be a REALLY long expansion for the prices that are charged for a release to disk. Eh, Im gona buy it either way

To quote the article he offers.
Mass Effect (2.5?) is to be announced at the VGAs. My source tells me it was originally planned to be released as DLC but soon ballooned to a size that was worthy of a full retail release to tide us Mass junkies over until 3 comes out at some undisclosed time. I don’t have a problem with the idea but we all saw what happened with Halo ODST – Sure it was entertaining but it felt likeit should have been nothing more than a $15 DLC or perhaps multiple downloadable chapters. This will happen Dec 11.
I'm inclined to agree with this. Montreal could have been building a series of DLCs for ME2 then had a L4D2 moment when they realized what they had produced is enough for an entire game.
So, we get a game like I described earlier, a sort of Half-life 1 sequel where we're not playing as Shepard, but other characters in the background of the main story line. Perhaps even characters from the books or comics.

1) Never trust a column specifically devoted to rumors. It's just throwing poop at a wall. No credibility and it reads like it was written by an 8th grader.Mallissin wrote...

2) Halo 3 ODST took 2 full years to make.
3) They contracted Blur to produce a CG trailer. They don't do that for DLC or expansions.
4) December 11 refers to the Spike VGA's, where all of this will be cleared up.

Because, for the most part, we don't believe this game is ME3 (or ME2, for that matter); therefore, the idea of Shepard being part of it is almost completely neglected.THY KREEPER wrote...
Why has no one considered the possibility of the reapers attacking Earth, and Shepard has to go down and savethe planet?

A super-sized DLC that became to big for a downloadable release? I don't really like the sound of it, but if a multiplayer component is still part of the game, I'm in.
Maybe not a super sized DLC, rather maybe a expansion pack like Awakening for DAO.

However, the possibility still exists that we may be playing as Shepard. I can see the trailer now, Earth is being attacked and soldiers are under heavy fire and in comes Shepard to save the day.
I think it's interesting that the devs are staying out of this topic. I guess this trailer is so secretive that the devs can't afford their usual clever quips.

If it is an expansion like Awakening for DOA, then I hope that we can have possibility to romance Kasumi.

Maybe its a game dealing with the first contact war?
You mean the week long skirmish that had less than 1300 enemy casualties? The one with only 2 major battles and very few ground troops?
Yeah that makes a great game.

There's a part of me that would like the new game to be a spin-off without Shepard primarily because it'd be great to have our own unique character in Mass Effect like the Grey Warden in Dragon Age: Origins. Not to mention having our Shepards interact with our unique characters could be pretty interesting since our save files will likely carry over.

I really believe Shepard's story is going to end with the trilogy. BioWare have been saying this is Shepard's story, and we know ME3 will not spell the end of the Mass Effect related games. As great as Shepard is, she/he isn't going to be the only Mass Effect character, so yeah, if this is indeed a spin-off game I expect Shepard to not make any appearance at all. Much like the books and the comics, its all about telling another story about other characters in the same universe.
As for the devs keeping out, they probably just dont want to spoil the surprise. The thread WAS stickied at one point, but was unstuck shortly after I added the QR codes that flashed up in a couple of VGA trailers, likely because they had nothing to do with this game.
It would be nice for another clue though
