Anyone think the whole Mass Effect 3 leak by EA is the red herring one of those codes was talking about?

I don't think it's likely but t'is a good theory none the less.

It's not like writers and cinematic designers are being diverted to create multiplayer. The only reason the extra resources even exist, is because they think MP will increase sales and lengthen the tail. The writing and cinematics staff is as large as it was ever going to be. And they can only do the amount of work that their schedule allows.

EDIT: In my mind, the old Kotaku rumor was the "Red Herring". Who was making this supposed spin-off game? Santa's elves? It certainly could not have been BioWare Montreal.

going by the information posted before hand, i'm getting the distinct feeling that bioware is going to pull a fable 3 with this one and by that i mean if you go pure paragon or paragon without smidgens of renegade and vice versa the galaxy is gonna be a lot less populated by the end.

How can they pull a Fable 3 when Fable 3 didn't pull a Fable 3? I was a goodie-goodie and I saved everybody. It just takes cash.

Back on topic: there were three basic branches of speculation for what this reveal could be. It could have been Mass Effect 3. It could have been Mass Effect 2 DLC. Or it could have been a new standalone game.

DLC could be dismissed because they wouldn't pay to have a CG trailer produced. The profit margin on DLC is razor thin to begin with. People just don't buy DLC like they should. They also wouldn't be making this big a deal about DLC.

A new game could be dismissed, because BioWare has no one to make it. Montreal was and is too small. Edmonton was working on DA2 and ME3. Austin was working on TOR. And the downsized Mythic was helping Austin. Everyone was spoken for.

That left ME3 as the only logical choice. So, no, these rumors were not of equal merit. And we did not just guess correctly. We actually used our brains better than some of you.

Good post stating why there shouldn't be multiplayer

Because it will not remain the same. This is the qualm the majority of us have. No matter what Bioware claims, the single player will suffer unless EA is willing to commit millions of additional funds and another year or two of development time, neither of which they will ever consider. It is an inevitability due to numerous mechanical overhauls required to accommodate a multiplayer. Every class, enemy, weapon, armor, the entire game itself will have to be redesigned to content with multiple people playing the game. As it is presently, things like Active Cloak, Adrenaline Rush and esspecially Charge are immensely overpowered in a multiplayer setting. Even if this was merely co-op, the game has to be capable of rendering at least double the gameplay processing power of Mass Effect 2. Two Vanguards charging means a larger loading sequence.

This does not even scratch the surface. Mass Effect 3 adhere to choice dialogue when two or more players are involved. One person cannot influence a story where there are many. Therefore, if there even exists choice in dialogue it will require content where multiple people can influence the story. If this undertaking were the direction ME3 sped toward such would mean a magnitude of dialogue for a second player. In any event I doubt EA would allow the funds to manage such an endeavor. In the end, single player would receive less and less attention to handle MP features. Consider if you will, Halo Reach. It spent approximately two years in development with an already designed mechanic for multiplayer; with a team that specializes in that field. Bioware would be experimenting for the first time and would have to begin with an entirely new system.

Suffice it to say, Mass Effect 3 does not have the necessary time to even sniff what Call of Duty and Halo have accomplished. If Bioware/EA desires an online multiplayer of some variety. Give it the proper dedication at  a later juncture. If it is included now... ME3 is trending along thin ice wherein it will attempt to please everyone and instead please no one. These features would nearly kill the RPG fanbase interest and devoid of proper mechanics, not deter the FPS fanbase to leave a superior shooter like Call of Duty to play Mass Effect 3.

All of the clues lead to Whittaker Chambers, a prominent figure during anti-Communism McCarthyism.

http://en.wikipedia....ttaker_Chambers

Peter Irons - progressive activist that went to prison during McCarthyism after suing the government to release papers Chambers produced implicating Alger Hiss
Cold Friday - book written by Chambers that predicted the fall of the Soviet Union
MI6 - Chambers was a spy against the Soviets during WW2
The Clash - Chambers started the snowball that led to McCarthyism by accusing several people, including Alger Hiss, of being communists.
Red Herring - Truman called the Chambers-Hiss case a "red herring".

It could be an allusion to perhaps some sort of storyline involving Citadel politics, like found in Mass Effect: Inquisition.

Edit note: Further research into the temperature clue lead me to this Russian reference to the original measurement.

http://www.aari.aq/p...in/abs_min.html

It mentions that the temperature reached -89.2 C on July 21, 1983, which was a Thursday. But it also mentions the station uses Moscow time ("reaching a 5 hours 45 minutes Moscow time, -89.2"). Generally, New Zealand's time zone is used for most of Antarctica instead, which would mean the coldest reading on record was done on a Friday.

If the exact position of the station was used against the time zones, the measurement would have been made 15 minutes before midnight on Thursday (cusp of Friday).

I'm personally looking forward to seeing how they implement multiplayer into ME3.

As far as I'm aware Bioware has not made any hints at including multiplayer.
The EA thing only mentioned ME3.

I'm not sure where all this negativity has come from but it is Bioware and they want to make the best game they can. Whether it's exclusively co-op or various other modes, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

The negativity comes from the fact that for multiplayer to exist resources that could be spent on more important things (such as more companion dialogue, cutscenes, dialogue for the story etc) would have to be used on adding multiplayer instead.
