Anyway, although all of the details pointed out so far are pointing towards some sort of prequel, I'm very surprised no one even considered that it could be Mass Effect 3.  The pre-rendered CG trailer for Mass Effect 2 didn't look much like Mass Effect at all either, minus the obvious story details from Mass Effect. Keep in mind we only saw a few seconds of this trailer. If you saw just the part of the ME2 trailer where Jack breaks out, what would you think? While it does look extremely likely that this is a spinoff, I still kind of hope this teaser turns out to be just a flashback or some sort of mission on Earth.

The only problem with the First Contact War theory is the gun itself... Has the Incisor really been around that long? I assumed most of the Mass Effect weapons were originally of alien design, but of course now someone is going to shove a codex entry I missed in my face and laugh. Image IPB About the bandages...Garrus had bandages. What if they just ran out of medi-gel?

Lots of people said that they think this is ME3, but they got shouted down and buried by the people who like more wild speculation, which is why you're seeing nothing but "the new game is a CoD-style multiplayer spinoff!" or "it's a First Contact War spinoff!" (which would be ridiculous, it was only a minor conflict, the only significance of it was that it was humanity's first contact with an alien species), etc.

Also, the Codex entry for the Incisor describes it as a "new wave" of weaponry. I'd assume that qualifies it as a new invention during ME2's time frame.

I watched that video some 30 times to get all of the information out of it I could, than read up some ME lore and spent a good amount of time putting it all into words so that everyone could see it to.
I agree with you, that would be a terrible game. It would be far too short and the only possible tie in they could do would be Ashley Williams (grand?)father, who was the commander at the time of invasion and surrender. You think maybe it's gonna follow him? and before you arrogantly disregard my ideas, how about actually taking into account what I said. please explain to me how the teased footage ties in at all to the Garvug Coup? what is human architecture doing on that planet, and why are the krogan suddenly mowing their lawns? and why is there grass on a "Frozen rock"? why is this human, wearing an old style of armor and using an old tech gun, running around Garvug during, or even after the orbital bombardment? why exactly would they tease a scene that far into the coup? And why is he using a bandage? its 2185 for christ's sake!

You've gotta be kidding me.

I never said it had anything to do with Garvug.  I only was showing that the First Contact War was a joke.  I was comparing the FCW to a VERY small military engagement that we know of to show how ridiculous it would be to make a game out of it.

Your complete incomprehension of what I was saying does speak volumes for your "conclusions" though.

Given, I did misinterpret that, but how about you explain to me WHY my conclusions are so far fetched? and if this a new IP, why is the marine using the Incisor rifle? And the FCW was the entire reason that the human's were allowed to join Citadel Space, they were the first species to have a military victory over the turians since the krogan, so I think it might be a little important. Now, this time around, please actually pay attention to what I'm saying and follow the thread's topic, not tell me why you think my assumption is a bad idea.

It was important, but as far as being a fight goes, it was minor. The Skyllian Blitz would be better for action.

The premises are fine, but a conclusion by definition is the culmination of a group of premises, where each premise has to be true in order for the final conclusion to be valid.  Your conclusion is a bad one because the premise that FCW would make an interesting game to play is wrong.

Why would the unnamed man be using a rifle that looks like the Incisor (but with a charging handle)?  Because recycling old models or old concept art is VERY common in videogames.  It takes an artist a while to come up with a new valid design that looks functional and has a certain entertaining aesthetic value.

BioWare may have simply had the model already in their rendering software, decided that it was probably the least "Mass Effect"/futuristic looking rifle they had available (and one that not everyone who has played the games would have access to) and put it in their new clip.  Its not the first time a game company has done that.  It takes time and money to come up with new designs and more time and money to model and skin them.  If they could cut corners by repainting an old model, why not?

And finally: "not tell me why you think my assumption is a bad idea" - the refutation of assertions is a key component of a conversation.  I could have sworn that this was a conversation thread, not a "lets listen blindly and contribute to one person's ideas".

Im not saying it's going to be only about the FCW, as everyone seems to believe Im saying. in my earlier post I talked about Ashley Williams' grandfather, who was the commander at Shanxi. The character in the video could quit possibly be him. I understand that the FCW is a bad idea for a game, but the evidence adds up

Which would be pretty sloppy, especially as they know it's a teaser that people would try to dissect to death to figure out what it is.

Exactly.  Its not like this is something new.  A lot of older games have done just this.

for the last time, Im not saying an FCW game would be good, I've already said that. I'm saying that the evidence adds up, the rifle is an exact replica except for the charging handle and the coloring, and Commander Williams seems like a viable hero for humanities first encounter with alien life.

And this thread IS about conversation, it's also about putting forth information and speculation regarding this new game. What you've done is come in and said "your idea is a dumb one and here's why" over and over. you haven't refuted any of the evidence, all you've done is stated why you think the FCW is a bad game idea. I'm not entirely sure where I explicitly said "this game will include the FCW and nothing else, all other idea's are moot" but you seem to keep alluding to that

It says "Look Closer" after all the trailers and commercials for the VGAs. Saw a few yesterday.

Actually, I heard that all the VGA teasers (not just BioWare's) have that "look closer" thing in them...? Read this.

Quite frankly i've been leaning towards the Alpha Protocol remake by BioWare.

Now a lot of people are saying that the first 2 clues point to Mass Effect (atomic mass of iron, cold temp on Earth know as an Effect). However when somebody pointed out Aequitas, it made me want to find out what it means. Aequitas is a planet in Mass Effect, but Aequitas was also the name of a Roman Goddes of of fair trade and honest merchants. In addition to that Aequitas in Greek is "justice" and is the second part of the phrase, "Veritas Aequitas." The phrase means "truth and justice." With the addition of the SIS website and the Russian twitter post (maybe not so much the twitter post), it point out that the new game has something to do with Spys. Whether or not set in the ME universe is to be seen.

Well I really hope BioWare don't plan to take Mass Effect into Halo Reach territory. For that matter it looks like BioWare is hopping on the generic FPS bandwagon cause well...That's where the big money is. It's like there is a meeting with EA and the choice of doing Jade Empire 2 at XX amount of profit vs a new IP generic FPS shooter at XXX profit well...You know what we'll get.

I want a Jade Empire 2 more than any game except ME3. But even though we probably won't see one (maybe ever), I wouldn't be quick to disparage this next project, probably a ME based fps, which could be all kinds of awesome.

Yeah, relatively old news. That article is how the whole "multiplayer spinoff" rumor started up.

Alright just adding it to the conversation after reading all of the posts (it wasn't brought up yet). I think what the article suggests is probably right, it seems to make sense based on all the hiring and what not. It just means Bioware is making strides to become more than just a developer to me...

Really hope this will be a damn good Mass Effect game with a great single player and an amazing Bad Company 2 style multiplayer. It seems Bioware is gonna put out more hints so I hope we can get some more info before the 11th.

To be little honest I would like to be a new setting that has nothing to do with mass effect or any games done by Bioware. Because it shows that they can make different storyarcs and games, keeping their image fresh. Just look how a company like Lucasarts known by their games of 90 like monkey island, began to focus only with Star Wars and that little tired their image.

Now from what i saw the teaser and the clues, I have two garantees. It is futuristic setting (perhaps some post apocalyptic, or perhaps alien invasion) and part of the game will happen in London, if not all of it.

The weapon I think is mere coincidence. Also I would love a prequel to Mass Effect, but only after the storyarc of reapers be concluded, so that Bioware doesn't diverge itself and tired the setting.

I also read that Bioware will present two things (games?) on December 11th. Since Dragonage II is in pre-orders, doesn't make much sense presenting a game that will be a month or so of coming out. So I think this teaser will be new game with new setting and we will also have the first images of Mass Effect 3. :D

That would Christmas before the actual Christmas.
