the spinoff of a TPS is now an FPS?

ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...........

I know, it's pretty hard to imagine Mass Effect in first person for me.

I wish it could stay third person, I like that a little more than first person.

if you think outside of existing Bioware games and sci-fi, you will notice the design is the most similar to AP, I doubt a teaser like this would be necessary just to announce ME3

Maybe for the armor, but not for the gun. The gun is the Incisor Rifle, detail for detail. If this is a promo for AP2 (which it's not), they used the Incisor Rifle model for whatever reason.

They have said that they are not making a sequel to AP, so thats not the answer.

Mass Effect: First Contact.

Step into he shoes of [Insert Bioware created last name here] as you witness the events leading up to and taking place during the first contact war. See how humanity discovered revolutionary new technology, that they would come to know as Prothean, that launched technology hundreds of years forward. In this new story, discover what the first encounter between humanity and the various alien races was like, and unravel the events that ultimately lead up the Mass Effect Trilogy.

Fake description I thought up, but I think it would be extremely awesome if they did something like that.

I don't think it's related to Bioware.

If it's a prequel it'd be weird if everybody thought the technology is prothean while we all know what it really is...

i strongly doubt that they'd release a mass effect prequel so close to mass effect 3, so i think it's ME3.

No, I mean the humans in the game discover that it is Prothean, not the players. As this would take place around when we first found the tech on Mars.

So I finally made it through all of the previous posts and I have to say there are a good amount of theories out there.  It's really amazing what can be done when we want to find stuff out.

Anyways, I'd like to hop in the ring here with my own theory.  The new Mass Effect game is set on Earth in the same timeline as the Mass Effect triology.  Bioware has stated that Earth will eventually play a role in the series, but they never stated how.  There is no doubt in my mind that the rifle being used in that picture is the Incisor Rifle from Mass Effect 2, but it does look slightly modified.

The other point I'd like to bring up is that Earth and the Alliance are separate entities.  The Systems Alliance merely represents Earth, its colonies, and humanity's interests in Citadel Space.  The Alliance is backed by all of the major nations on Earth, but Earth itself is governed by its own separate governments (i.e. The United North American States, European Union, Chinese People's Federation).  If it is indeed on Earth, that could explain why the armor may look different.  So far, we've only seen typical human armor used by the Alliance, the custom armor that is used by Mercenaries, and the higher end armor used by Cerberus.  Cerberus specifically made their armor for humans, unlike the other forms of armor which could be worn by Asari as well.  I suspect the armor used in the trailer is meant for humans specifically and may not be Cerberus at all.

Anyways, I don't have a whole lot of fancy decoded clues or anything like that to really support all this, but this is what I gathered from the glimpse of a trailer I saw.  I am anxious to see the new trailer when it premieres.  However, I'm sure we'll know even more by then.

Not an MMO... Not an MMO... oh please god not an MMO. You already have KOTOR for that.

I can handle any spin-off, whether it's first person or third person or first-contact war or whatever, just please god do not give me an MMO.

Yeah, they're already killing another franchise. To me, that is the final nail on the KOTOR franchise. An unreleated to KOTOR 3 KOTOR game means no KOTOR 3 too soon, an MMO means no game for even more time. KOTOR 1 (2 is basically 1 part 2 technically) is beginning to get quite old, and it would be quite a risk to make a third chapter when the latest was released 6 years ago, it's like no one played them and new players would get thrown in an innapropriate moment and they'd have to rethink everything. I sincerely hope they don't kill the ME franchise in a similar way...

I have two theories: {I know I'm wrong I'll acknowledge that now}

Theory #1:

From the codes it sounds like a game based on a personal vindetta.
The negative temperature code & iron code represent the where the majority of the game will take place (Aequitas).

The SIS code indicates to me that the beginning at least will be "spy" related and based on Earth or Earth-like planet.

The murder code is the dead give-away to me: Either the player is framed, trying to be killed/assassinated or susposed to kill a target. That causes the player to hunt down the one who is trying to proceed to arange the players' demise.

Theory #2
The game is set durning the Skyllian Blitz. Begins at a N7 training facility. The attack commences and the player goes to restore order to Elysium. And has to chase down fleeing Batarians who are setting up a beachhead on Aequitas while on Aequitas discover that the Batarians' main bases are on Torfan. Then ordered to go and pack the heat on Torfan and dispose of the pirates.

Just my thoughts though.........

That would result in either canonizing a War Hero/Ruthless Shepard (which would invalidate the other one) or alienating the Sole Survivor Shepards even more (we already got slapped in the face by being forced to work with Cerberus) :(

BioWare turned their backs to me first I'm afraid. ME2 felt like a stab in the back, and DA2 looks like a spinning dagger heading slowly towards me.

It's bad enough that I'm worried that ME3 could be even more like "Gears of War with dialogue" than ME2 was without footage of a no-necked tough marine guy in a completely grey environment. They're not exactly helping their case here.

See, I like this idea. We have two years and a whole lot of Heretic Geth to kill, or maybe even Cerberus ops to bust/help.

So, if it's multiplayer, you can play as Alliance, Cerberus, Geth, Council, or individual species (Krogan vs Salarian).

Could be fun.

The new Mass Effect game will not be a MMO.  According to Kotaku, it is not an MMO and will have a single-player component.  The article I am referring to can be found here:
