I wonder if Laidlaw has any hair left after reading these posts.

Of course not because A) He knows only a tiny minority of the community actually come to the internet to air their opinions, and B) because he also knows most people only say something about a game when they have got something bad to say.

Your assumptions are still based on a dearth of solid info.

How can you know what any one persons assumption is based on? my assumption is mostly based on the fact that every Bioware game I've owned has been superb, I have no reason to believe they could destroy a franchise in one foul swoop, plus i do actually like what little info I have heard about the game.

I honestly do not see how the OP can reject DA2 because of gameplay alterations yet tout TOR as "BioWare of the last decade" seeing as TOR is basically the ME/ME2/DA2 paradigm in MMO form.

Also, Witcher 2, lol

If DAII is an ARPG, does that mean Origins was one as well? Considering it essentially plays the same?

I think the complaints stem from the ME2 transition into a shooter. Now we (PC gamers at least) assume Bioware is "dumbing" it down for broader appeal. Argue the validity of the statement all you want, the fact is the PC community sees this as a change in Bioware's direction.

According to Gamespot, "Mass Effect 2 was a solid hit, selling over 1.6 million units as of May"

And according to gamercenteronline "BioWare has just announced that Dragon Age: Origins has sold over 3.2 million units worldwide, granting Dragon Age triple platinum status." This was in February.
http://www.gamercent...platinum-sales/

I like ME2, but Dragon Age didn't have to copy ME2. It did very well commercially.

EA loves metacritic, they really do. ME2 is one of the highest rated games of all time, and they definitely want that from DA2 now.

DA:O  was a big success (especially being an oldschool RPG), but it had a 5-6 year development time. Other games with 5 year development times and similar budgets like Red Dead and FFXIII sold 2x as much.. which is why we're seeing a quick sequel for DA2 now.

Hmmmm....why the lol?  I'll eat my copy of The Witcher 2 if it's not the best reviewed RPG of 2011.  (Don't quote me on that.)

What statistics do you have to back up this claim? you can speak for yourself by all means, but for an whole community? There are millions of PC gamers out there, not even %1 of them are going to air their opinion on DA2.

I would have to agree, TW2 looks like the spiritual successor to DA2.

DA2 looks like spiritual successor to Ninja Gaiden mixed with Zelda.  Maybe Bioware is simply selling it wrong, but all the indications I get from them are that DA2 is now a button masher with combos.

DA2 may not be the Original Poster's cup of tea, considering there are restricted outfits for DA2 companions. DA2 won't allow min/maxing of everything for every character.

But I don't see DA2 as a bad design at all.

I would like to say more, but I fear it will just lead to more Console vs. PC nonsense. I will say this, Bioware, after being successful for so long, has a position to attempt new things instead of the same old same old. And that also goes into how their games are designed. It has already been decided that Dragon Age games are available for PC, Xbox360, and PS3. I see Bioware attempting to make a game that can be successful across the board and play well on all systems. I hope they can prove that games can be developed concurrently rather than made for one system and then ported with less than spectacular results.

BioWare marketed it as an action RPG. Whether it was or not depends on your personal definition.

All the indications I get tell me it's a side scrolling space based flash game.

Depending on how upgradable those outfits are it could well mean more potential for min/maxing.

Oh, I know it was. I'm just asking for the people that seem to believe that DA:O was the pinnacle of CRPG greatness.

I Thought TW1 was a terrible game but of course that is just my opinion, but even the fans must have to admit TW2 will have to be a much better game than TW1 was to recieve scores 9 and above.

That was my reaction. Although I do agree Bioware's marketing has been less than stellar. Otherwise there wouldn't be so much confusion about the game.

Bioware essentially says it's a faster version of Origins.
That's what it plays like.

Unless using say... Two-handed Sweep and Sunder Armor afterwards in Origins was a combo.

PS:T a good story with a horrid battle system, almost no character customization and less than stellar graphics and animations for the time.

What are your complaints about DA2 again?

If you want a real Bioware game and a real RPG, buy the Baldur's Gate Complete Edition.

If you want a heavily streamlined game that betrays its own roots, go buy DA2.

The Witcher 2 > everything else.

Hopefully, I just cancelled my DA2 and preordered TW2 based on a friend's recommendation about it.

What make planescape great was the story one of most beauty for me.. Of course if someone present a game with words like:"think like a general fight like a spartan" i scratch my head lol
