If DAII is an ARPG, does that mean Origins was one as well? Considering it essentially plays the same?

Imo it sort of was, I mean I tried to play it as a tactical RPG, but the difficulty level wasn't there really to support that playstyle.  It started out ok, but after level 10ish you coud essentially just auto pilot (and auto attack) your way through the game.  My defintion might be unique though, as I consider any RPG that doesn't make me have to stop and think an action one.

Hell I'd see it as an improvment if the game was a challenging button masher.

Faster version of origins but full of lack features also.... I don't see anything from origin in this "Sequel"

Except, you know, the writing, the dialogue system, the combat system, little things.

You know you could always try both. :?

There aren't enough rpg releases as it is.

considering there are restricted outfits for DA2 companions. DA2 won't allow min/maxing of everything for every character.

Depending on how upgradable those outfits are it could well mean more potential for min/maxing.

True, I was just thinking you can't upgrade their boots from armor 1.35 to 1.48.

Or something to that effect.

If DA2's story is even remotely on par with PS:T I will drop my apprehension and buy the game.

Unfortunately I'm such a PC gaming extremist that if they have things like loading screens after a boss, with an instant warp back to ship/hut I'll pass.

Look at the IGN forum post I linked, that is the perception of the PC community in my experience.

Also, Bioware says things like "press a button and awesome happens" which ... is offensive on many levels for someone of my pomposity.

True true.... I'm going off of posts like this that are literally on EVERY game forum I visit:

I agree completely it can "appear" that way, but as people have mentioned before, people only usually comment on a game and/or game development when they have got something bad to say, add to this the fact that people who may want to defend the game would feel intimidated to post, it makes for a very one sided arguement (arguement being the right word as it is impossible to have a debate in such forums).

Dialog system: not good in a game where you create your hero!

Combat system: I played it at lucca comix and games and its something that fits perfectly to a beat em up....

Writing is good: But works better if you don't have a streamlized title..

Yep, but for all we know the armour stat is something we can carefully balance to a specific number. The system isn't inherently less complex, it's the implementation.

A false positive is certainly possible.

Part of me wants to buy it and see, and the other part of me wants to ban it (yes, without having played) simply because ME2 bothered me so much.  The other sad thing is that ME2 had great characters, better than ME1 for sure, but the dumbing down just turned me off time after time until I just stopped playing.

Are you saying my concern that this is a combo-button masher is true?  You have played the game?

More info please.

It seems not. Every game must be pitted against each other in a 1 v 1 battle, you're not allowed to like both.

Haven't played the game, but if you think Planescape is a great game with bad action/combat based on the story, why are you damning DA2 without knowing much more about the story other than the 30 second blurb that everyone knows?  As I said, I haven't played Planescape, so can you give me a short version (couple of sentences, maybe a paragraph tops) of what the story is so I have some sense of what to expect if I ever play it?

I do this all the time with my buddy who loves COD.

My level 56 elf riddles his sniper with arrows while my mage casts a level 4 flame wall and wipes out his whole battalion. Good fun.  :wizard:

Its not that simple.  Bioware is making changes to their old formula's, some people liked their old formula; they are making a bet that more new people will like the ka-pow nature of ME2/DA2.  Their bet will pay-off, just look at all of the schwag in entertainment that makes millions.  Britney Spears anyone?

Now, is DA2 Britney?  Who knows at this point, but the indicators from Bioware marketing is: yes

I don't get to create Hawke? Since when?

So Dragon Age Origins was a beat'em up, you say? Considering, you know, it plays alike?

I played hab the console version at the lucca comix and games its a fake button masher you have to press to swing the sword yes and you have a radial menu to use skill like mighty blow and others.. Bioware says the gameplay in pc version its like origins and have auto attack.. This is the only difference from pc and console verions...

Have you played DA:O on the console?  That's how it played on the 360....

I'm not joking at all. DA2 looks like a lot of fun. I won't buy it because I will be playing Cataclysm instead (quit when I'm max lvl). I'm a sucker for stats and gear, so DA:O was my type of game.

No backhanded insult intended, I kind of had an epiphany while watching a DA2 gameplay video that made me step back and see it for what it was: a fun game. Kind of like Ninja Gaiden (awesome console game back in the day) mixed with DA:O.

ToR on the other hand will be ALL about stats/gear/min-maxing with some Bioware story on top (winning formula IMO).

A true "DA2" is actually the Witcher 2, from what I've seen of each game at least.

Then go be a mathematician. Yo.

People have different perceptions of having fun.

Some enjoy THAC0 rolls and theorycrafting, and some enjoy killstreak nukes.

So the only difference between the pc and console versions is that  the pc version isn't the "fake button masher" that you describe?

You just described DA:O on the console.

Surprising that DA2 on the console plays the same.
