Damn, was about to make this thread. Emissaries look scary as all hell, am I the only one who thinks they look elven-like?

Yes, they look very elven with those ears, could be that this particular emissary was bred by an elven broodmother, but I always thought those only produced shrieks... hmmm

We've seen genlock emissaries and hurlock emissaries. Why not shriek emissaries?

I'm particularly interested in ogre emissaries.

well...one could argue....HOW are there emissaries at all Maria? who teaches them magic? how is something like Darkspawn able to weave complex spells like paralisys and such

The only problem thus far is that there would be more genlocks and hurlocks than shrieks or ogres, due to availability.

I've no doubt in my mind that an Ogre could be an emissary too.

Yeah it's just the shrieks always looked more.... um animalistic if you know what I mean, shriek emissaries? this should be fun :o, also don't mind if that's a new unified look for emissaries.

Yes the concept art looks like a shriek emissary and that could explain the ropes. The shriek have forward shoulder so the use those ropes to keep their shoulders back. But the belt in the face It has no sense:blink:

Same reasons that humans, elves and qunari learn it?

They live for centuries, they have time to learn.

Edit: Well, whether they can be classified as alive isn't clarified as of yet. Exist rather.

Um m8, the old gods teach it to them or so the legend says.... you may argue the legend says the old gods teached it to the Tevinter magisters but also according to the legend those same magisters were the first of the darkspawn so by extent your answer is: the old gods...

They're known to be capable of speech, for one.

You're assuming paralysis is a complex spell.  Considering Jowan had it, I don't think so.

Can Dogs learn how to talk? No. It can't.

You're comparing apples to fictional oranges.

your argumen t is slightly flawed..albeit yes SOME darkspawn are capable of speech as someone said, how does an archdemon teach darkspawn magic in between blights when they are slumbering waiting to be awakened?..if they CAN teach somethign as complex as magic while they slumber then why do they not simply lead the darkspawn while slumbering?

for that matter why are darkspawn not possessed by demons? is it because as Riodan says Darkspawn have no soul?

The disciples weren't made smarter because of the "joining", they just got released from the call. Darkspawn aren't stupid. At least that is my understanding.

Since it was revealed. They can sustain on only the taint for an unspecified amount of time.

that's my point.....even given the aptitude, is darkspawn intelligent enough to learn something thast takes a human decades to master?

which means that "the calling" of the old gods pretty much makes them one track minded "come and dig me the hell out of this rock" kinda signal......

oh...I did not remember that particular reveal...is there a codex entry for it?

Read "Dragon Age : The Calling" by David Gaider, the archdemons call to the darkspawn and compel them to search for them and free them from their prisons, when a Grey Warden is old and reaches the time of his calling he also begins to hear the old gods so they go into the deep roads in order to fight and die instead of becoming compelled to seek the old gods, some older wardens say they can understand the archdemon [says Alistair at the very beginning of Origins] so it's not that hard to assume the old gods teach the more intelligent darkspawn magic while they're in their prisons or even when they're outside.

Darkspawn ARE intelligent, they just have no free will.

Exactly, the disciples are the best example, the Architect didn't alter them in any way, he just freed them from the calling.

That'd be quite the sight :o, an abomination is horrid in its most basic form, so are darkspawn, a mix of the two would be.......... HELL:devil:

I think it would be pretty much like trying to mug Tyson. Fun fun.
