uhm......ok.......I still wonder if they are vulnerable to possession, a Darkspawn abomination........now that'd be something

That'd be quite the sight :o, an abomination is horrid in its most basic form, so are darkspawn, a mix of the two would be.......... HELL:devil:

considering that avernus said that the taint is alien to the demons, it would be interesting if it is indeed possible to merge the two to form an abomination or something completely different.

The only problem thus far is that there would be more genlocks and hurlocks than shrieks or ogres, due to availability.

I've no doubt in my mind that an Ogre could be an emissary too.

Availability would change from place to place. Imagine a city was attacked by darkspawn and they decided to defend the city proper while leaving the alienage defenseless. Tons of city elves are taken so many elven broodmothers are created.

And it wouldn't have even had to happen recently. A broodmother can live a long, long time.

To be honest, I'm still baffled by how there were so many ogres in Ferelden. How long ago did they find the archdemon that they had time to walk the deep roads from qunari occupied areas?

Yes the concept art looks like a shriek emissary and that could explain the ropes. The shriek have forward shoulder so the use those ropes to keep their shoulders back. But the belt in the face It has no sense:blink:

It's fashion, baby. Just because you're a tainted, malformed creature of darkness doesn't mean you can't be FAB-U-LOUS.

This makes me believe that they are a global thing, and thus not caused by the black city incident. That incident might have caused the archdemons though.

Since there were ogres there during the previous blights, and Qunari hadn't arrived by then.

Those would have to be really Deep Roads to connect Thedas with the qunari's mysterious home continent (which I now dub "the Quntinent"). I mean, I don't think that's even possible. Well, unless maybe a wizard did it.

Oh great. I was trying to get over how stupid the hurlocks look and now emissaries look like redeads. I am so happy they said darkspawn aren't prominent in this game so I don't have to see these horrible jokes that much.

Counter-act this devastating acid attack with a Qunari approved Pepto-Bismol canon.

Yeah, or maybe some Tal'Vashoth "pilgrims" arrived to Thedas in smaller numbers unannounced and subsequently got captured, a long time prior to the main arrival. Or maybe the ocean is just really shallow.

Could be one of those teleporters that supposedly don't exist within the setting.

What if the girl qunari isn't horny?

Also there aren't any female qunari in this part of the world anyway.

Only since the last two centuries. And very few outside of Par Vollen and Seheron.

She doesn't have to have horns for you to grab her by the horns, if you know what I mean.

They're there. They're simply well-preserved.

I think the Lightspawn look a bit goofy now, especially the Ogre

I agree, they look nearly identical. And except for the color of their skin and the armor they wear I think they look pretty similar to the original Hurlocks as well.

Eh. I still maintain my stance:

I didn't like the old darkspawn look, and I don't care much for the new one--but at least the new one looks like they have the same disease.

Kind of agree. The Ogre in DA:O was probably one of my favorite creature designs from a video game. So it's a little hard for me to like the new design.
At the same time, as awesome as the original Ogre was, it just didn't look like something that bore any relation to Hurlocks, Genlocks, or Shrieks. So I can appreciate the redesign in that regard.
I've got mixed feelings, I guess, but I'm reserving judgment of the overall Darkspawn design for when I can see the final product and how well it fits with the setting.
