Interesting, what do you guys think of the new emissary look?

it's pretty persistent impression. not sure if want
edit: also, maybe it's just me but that emissary in the bottom left corner seems to be having some really good time...

I agree with regard to the emisaries. I wasn't terribly impressed with the emisaries in DA:O. but I think the coloration differences have me leaning toward the original Hurlocks. Or, rather the Awakening Hurlocks. Those looked really gross/awesome.Gavinthelocust wrote...
I may be crucified by my privates for saying this but I like the new designs a lot more than the old ones, these Darkspawn actually look like corrupt wretches rather than reptilian people with a bad skin infection.

To be honest, I'm still baffled by how there were so many ogres in Ferelden. How long ago did they find the archdemon that they had time to walk the deep roads from qunari occupied areas?
I don't think they need an archdemon to make new broodmothers, so they could have (theoretically) snagged a female qunari within the past 3 centuries, turned her into a broodmother, and been churning out ogres for a considerable time prior to the blight. They would have congregated under Ferelden due to the Call of the archdemon no matter where they started out.
Now, whoever said that there were ogres in prior blights, I canna help with that one. I'm not sure it's every stated anywhere that there WERE ogres in earlier blights (and, in fact, there are a few vague hints in the game that there are "new darkspawn" that we've "never seen before" at Ostagar--coulda been ogres).
I think this vagueness strategy is paying off for the devs--in The Stolen Throne Maric talks about "legends of hugely-horned ogres" or some such in the Korcari wilds, but it's never explicitly stated that these AREN'T darkspawn, either, so thus far I haven't seen any true continuity breaks that couldn't be waved off with a "wasn't stated explicitly to be otherwise".
*Apart from the fact that everything now looks completely different, I mean.

Well, now that's all I'm gonna see.

No, they do not.
Look at the face:

I find face in the the concept much more fitting. Pale round eyes, hollow jaws, bleeding nose etc. In the concept there's an interesting contrast (aside from the black and white one) which is lost in the in-game model: red blood on white skin.

The lips are red. That's it. Otherwise nearly identical.axa89 wrote...

Exactly.
I really like the concept art Hurlock as you have a really nice contrast between the black armor and the whote skin. Plus the faces on the concept art hurlocks look really messed up and blighted, like they actually have a terrible disease.
But the in game model's colors are all dulled out with more like gray armor and tan skin, with a face that is lacking a the gorier bits of the concept art, giving the Chalkspawn a very clean sort of dry look, whereas the concept art hurlock faces look like their skin is sloughing off around their nostrils and mouth and they look genuinely blighted up.

But I like them. They look jaundiced and withdrawn. Now if only they did not look like that in Ferelden and still during the Blight...

You're nitpicking over minor coloration differences? Seriously? Do you realize that they could, possibly, be colored almost identically but appear with a different hue due to ingame lighting? Not saying that is the case, but it's possible.Brockololly wrote...

They don't look jaundiced to me. Jaundiced people turn YELLOW, not white. Oo, I thought of something nasty I could say there, but I'll refrain. They look like they lack skin pigmentation, perhaps because they've never been exposed to the direct rays of the sun.
Granted, neither have I, but I'm a bit more pink than that. They look like Sheamus from WWE.

You're seriously telling you can see all those distinct differences in an image that has this level of detail?

Aren't zombies also corrupted, altered versions of human beings..? Especially if it's zombies with reptilian bits?Doveberry wrote...
In DA:O, they were pretty much just standard zombies with some reptilian elements thrown in. These, on the other hand, look like corrupted, altered versions of human beings.

Oh great. I was trying to get over how stupid the hurlocks look and now emissaries look like redeads. I am so happy they said darkspawn aren't prominent in this game so I don't have to see these horrible jokes that much.
I do quite love the new look of darkspawn.... it screams "Run for your lives!!"
It screams "Huur huur I be stupid git" to me. I liked the older look more.
