Also note: remember the Architect and Mother are starting sh*t post Blight so its a good 3-4 years of Darkspawn Surface Incursions.

So, 2.5 years until that all ends.
And, the darkspawn were in Ferelden. Southern Ferelden.

It's almost as if the Dragon Age: Journeys team presaged the new art direction.
With maybe a little bit of this:
Those books scaraed the [feces] out of me when I was a kid!!!

Hahaha- I LOVED those books! Seriously, the illustrations in those were so freakishly bizarre and disturbing for a kids book- the stories were pretty freaky too...

THATS scary- the new hurlocks or emissaries? Not so much.

Okay, can someone remind me which book that's from? I ABSOLUTELY remember that illustration because it was freaky. However, it was so long ago that I just don't remember which book it was...

...that's precisely what I was expecting until the Darkspawn got their own "know your enemy" preview. Now I'm thinking they're more important, which would be annoying to me personally.
I don't see it, they had creature updates for Arcane Horrors and Devouring Corpses with Origins and neither of them were particularly prevelant nor dictated what enemies you would mostly be fighting. The fact that the first creature for DA2 that they showed off was a Strider indicates that they are putting in a bunch of things to that part of the website. I don't see us fighting Striders at every turn, nor do I see it as an indication that the Darkspawn will be more prevalent.
I expect it's just a nothing update to keep it looking busy and to educate the uneducated. I hope I'm right though, as I am in the same camp as you in not wanting many more Darkspawn encounters. I still shudder when I have to go through the Deep Roads again in DAO as it is.
I do want to see what Genlocks look like now though, I thought they were strangely cute in Origins.

Funny enough, it seems in more recent editions they got rid of these illustrations. Bah! What little kid doesn't want to read a scary story and see this?

I really hope DA 2 has a scary or at least atmospheric scary part- the Deep Roads I always thougt should be a genuinely scary area with hardly any light and just tremendous atmosphere, yet they weren't. Maybe they'll fix them up in DA2....

But really, we're all desensitized to horrific looking monster models. There's not much out there that scares me at all besides maybe this..

My only problem with the emmissary is the incredible level of retconning it takes to call that an emmissary. Some continuity would be nice. I mean, that's just totally different.
Sidenote: OM freaking G. Those illustration's are from children's books? Those are terrifying.

Meh, I was hoping we were mostly done with the whole Darkspawn thing. Ah well - guess I'll see how it turns out.
Judging by the Emissary's write up I would imagine we run into them in the Deep Roads at some point. This seems even more likely considering the Deep Roads concept art and the snap shot of what looks like a Deep Roads cave in the Destiny Trailer.
It's just a rewording of the codex entries/writeups from Origins. It probably bears little resemblance to their actual role in the game.
