If they aren't an entirely new creature, they'll be placed under the 'personal handwave' heading for me, in the same way that, in my games, Alistair isn't in his early 20s or (most unbelievable of all) 19. Eamon is not 45. And those emmissaries? A new enemy, perhaps the result of the Architect's experimentations.

Wait, Eamon was supposed to be 45?

Alistair looked and behaved like he was in his early 20s (and really, so were all the origin NPCs when you think about it) but Eamon was only 45?

Yeah, the Eamon thing is a kicker, ain't it? ;) Me, I think Alistair looks closer to 30 than 19, sounds about the same, and his behavior is perfectly consistant for someone whose grown up in a very sheltered/strict environment, and always been told how to think and behave. I also think his story works a lot better if he isn't a kid, but that's neither here nor there. Anyhoo, 19 is a gamebreaker for me, so I just handwave it to something that works. I can do the same with the darkspawn. I'd rather not have to, but I can do it. That being said, if the DA:O cameos feature characters that look so wildly different, there's going to be a problem.

Alistair that btw has an older VA than Morrigan, but I don't see any people saying that he sounds 40.

Now that I've finished boarding up my windows, I can answer this one:

It's easy, he's a better voice actor.

Shadow Warior wrote...

Why would you want to change morrigan's voice now that everione is acostumed to it? To confuse people
Claudia Black sounds great, I wonder if people will complain about her voice once morigan will get older, if she gets older...

I don't want to change it.  I just don't think her performance as Morrigan was as great as everyone else does.  It's entirely subjective.

Oh, I see, I cant say much if its subjective, but maybe Isabela`s VO will be "better"Image IPB

I'm sorry, but that Hurlock design is terrible. The Emissary looks cool, though.

Okay, can someone remind me which book that's from? I ABSOLUTELY remember that illustration because it was freaky. However, it was so long ago that I just don't remember which book it was...

I really hope DA 2 has a scary or at least atmospheric scary part- the Deep Roads I always thougt should be a genuinely scary area with hardly any light and just tremendous atmosphere, yet they weren't. Maybe they'll fix them up in DA2....

Ah, thanks - yep, that was it!!!! True, I would agree that in darkspawn-controlled areas I'd expect the environment to be poorly lit (or almost completely dark) and dangerous. Maybe they'll have lanterns/torches this time for the players - heh. Meanwhile, I just tell myself that dwarven engineering and lighting technology are really, really amazing. *chuckle*

You don't have to tell yourself that. It is fact.

The darkspawn from Origins look a lot more evil and menacing than the new ones. I don't know why BioWare is changing the art design direction. The new ones look like herp derp bungling idiots as opposed to creatures feared the world over.

/sigh

They look like the bad guys from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or something like that.

I beg forgiveness for any implication that dwarven technological superiority is not a fact - it is.

P.S. You can stop pointing that crossbow at me!!!

I look at the Emissary art and can't help but see them shuffling around all goofy with their chest puffed out with their arms folded in all T-Rex like.

Its like they're the comic relief more than being some terrible monster- especially with the silly belt face.

Maybe they need the strapping for added structural support? I'm on a roll with the funny quips today! Well, maybe not, but I expect that they at least won't have any weirdly goofy grins in the game. I tend to think of that one drawing as the equivalent of the screenshots we always get of companion NPCs that always seem to have been taken at the most unflattering angle imaginable.

If it is a shriek emissary, it´s not that bad, besides the anime elf ears. But I agree with you. "Unique" stupid look is no improvement from what we have. I thought this was the artist from JE, he can do scary.

Eh, I'll wait to see how it actually looks (and moves, very important) in game before I judge how creepy it is definitively. It's ambiguous with just the concept art, but I could see it being creepy.

Eamon looked like a grandfather. I guess it makes his marriage to Isolde a little less squicky?

I never, absolutely, never would have pegged Alistair at 19. He seemed like 22-23? Naive, etc. It seemed to fit.

30 doesn't work, because he doesn't sound like he was a Warden for that long, and he had almost become a templar. I would have placed him at around 18 when he just about finished templaring training, and then Duncan sweeped him up for a few years.

He was conscripted before he took his wows. Six months before you met him.

I get that there probably trying to make them distinct from the Hurlocks but it's looking like they went too far in the other direction. So guessing we won't be seeing any Genlock Emissaries in DA2 as a result. Hell probably won't even be seeing the Genlocks.

I always thought Alistair was in his mid to late 20's.

His man crush on Duncan makes a lot less sense that way.

Or maybe more...you know, in a surrogate father way?

Duncan saved him from a life he'd despise and gave him the chance to actually play the hero. Alistair fell hard for that.

But how would less time toghether make Duncan feel like a surrogate father? Listening to Alistairs speak, their relationship sounded a lot deeper.

Heh, I meant less of a man crush and more of a son's affection.

The Emissary looks pretty weird, I'd say they'd look better if that model was used for ghouls rather than them but I still like it.

I get a feeling the Genlocks will be the Derppist of the derp.
