Also, besides the Talimancer thing, why so many people wants the ME2 chars put aside or killed in the first 5 minutes of the game? I mean... even I dislike Jack I'd never says "I want her dead immediately"... she's part of the saga and need her rightful place, as anyother. We are all Bioware's paying clients, right? If we insist enough we can hope that seying how boring we are about that (xD) our favourite chars we'll still have a decent development in the last game. But if we all thiks that everyone's lost anyway, there will be more chance that this happens.

Maybe killing off most of the squad will work in Jack's favor. After all, every time some one dies and it isn't her, her "chances of survival go up" lol.

The more responses I’ve read, the more confident I feel in Legion being a guaranteed squad member for ME3.

The possibilities for Legion at the end of ME2-
1) Survived SM.
2) Died during SM.
3) Never activated, left in EDI’s AI core.
4) Never activated, sold to Cerebrus.

1 & 3 make it easy for Legion to be a squad member at the start. As others have pointed out, 2 merely requires a replacement platform with copies of the geth programs, re-downloaded from backups. I think scenario 4 can be dealt with in the same way as 2.

Input some unique dialogue at the beginning, and presto! Squad member for ME3.

Legion has some serious plot armor. He'll survive the cutting room floor.

I know, but I was thinking about it today... can Geth manually make a back-up on their own will? Or can they only make a back-up when they get destroyed?

Is that ever specified in the series? Because if it's the latter, that could be a problem.

As far as I know, it isn't specified.

In regards to Garrus, I would be surprised if he wasn't in your squad. In the first game he quits C-Sec to join up with you. He may return or he may get Spectre training but then he leaves. In regards to Turian honour and hierarchy he's probably near the bottom since, like he says himself, "he's not a very good Turian."
So basically, he's lost a lot by joining up with Shepard and I doubt his word would mean a lot to the Turian Hierarchy if he was to try to seek their help against the Reapers.
That's just my opinion though.

Also, if I recall correctly, when they first announced Mass Effect they announced it as a trilogy, so I think they should stick with that instead of making the last game with completely new squad members who you don't know and have to learn to trust in order to fight the greatest threat the Galaxy has ever seen.

I liked the sense of continuity from recruiting Garrus and Tali. It linked the first and the second games together. I would like to see both Tali and Garrus play a major part in ME3. There would be the sense of "we've come all this way together, let's finish it together".

I would like to see a much bigger part for the LI. I hated the treatment in ME2. I spent lots of time in ME1 romancing Ashley and what did it get me? Being yelled at on Horizon. Fair enough, Shepard didn't didn't try to contact his LI and perhaps deserved the telling off, but (important) that was not my fault - I wanted to but the game didn't allow it! That decision right there cheapened the whole romance from ME1 and put me off following any romance in ME2. I hope Bioware don't screw it up as badly in the final chapter.

My guess:

Since everybody except Liara and Joker can die, I predict a whole new crew except for those two.

Or, on the flip side: Bioware could keep all existing characters from ME1 and ME2. The default without a save import could be that they all survived. The worst case would be an import where everyone died, except one. Then you would be stuck with Liara and that survivor.
